A LETTER ABOUT THE UPCOMING SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION FROM JESSICA DIECKMAN

Welcome to The New Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship---in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

THE FOLLOWING LETTER IS IN THE 5/12/2022 EDITION OF THE GAZETTE AND PRINTED HERE WITH PERMISSION:

TO THE EDITOR:

The May 17th CHUFSD school board election really should not be about personalities, heavy-handed social issues and agendas, or the beliefs people hold about largely non-education and non-parenting topics, and yet many promote that it is.

It really should not be based on feverish devotion to the ephemeral concept of a monolithic Croton Culture, wherein presumptions are made about who fits in or not, but many promote that it should be.

The May 17th school board election must be about one thing only: our children, the students. As CHUFSD residents we must recognize and distinguish candidates who respect all members of the community, regardless of belief, background or occupation, and who, in all earnestness, are attempting to gain position for the sake of the children. Our job is to then choose candidates who do not, either directly or through their conduct, polarize or divide.

Through what I have read, learned and have been told by both the proponents and opponents of all those running, I identify that Greg Burns and Cathy Connolly Caputo intend to dedicate their efforts to our children's needs, without peripheral politically-situated motivations.

Regardless of the results of this election, all members of the school board, now and in the future, have the duty to respect and listen to families with varied ideas and experiences, and should not be governing the direction of our schools based on their personal political allegiances.

Heeding this, our schools will grow ever stronger in inclusiveness and achievement.

Sincerely, Jessica Dieckman

NEW FROM EFSP: BUTYWAVE SHAMPOO!

New from our friends at European Film Star Postcards:

Butywave Shampoo - "Butywave Shampoo - gives life to your hair", said a popular British advert in the 1920s: "Each shampoo contains in separate packets Egyptian Henna and Lime-Juice Rinsing Chrystals." This was a shampoo that loved an exotic image. When the smash hit The Son of the Sheik (George Fitzmaurice, 1926) with Rudolph Valentino and Vilma Banky arrived in Great Britain, Butywave released a series of sepia postcards of the film to promote its shampoo.

AND NOW ONCE AGAIN: MORE FROM THE GOOD ENOUGH FOR THEE, BUT FOR ME VIRUS CHRONICLES---PATTI LUPONE

Chalk up one more celebrity COVID hypocrite: musical theater great turns out to be a (maskless) ranting mask Karen.  A viral video shows the Tony and Grammy winner screaming “get the f–ck out” at a patron for refusing to mask up after a performance of “Company” at the American Theatre Wing. Yet LuPone wasn’t wearing a mask as she ranted. Color us shocked.

Yes, she was doing a post-show Q-and-A. She likely wanted her face to be seen and her speech to be understood. But the policy of the theater where she was performing requires masking.

So why not her? Does being on a stage mean you can’t get others sick?  MORE AT https://nypost.com/2022/05/12/patti-lupones-hypocritical-privilege-makes-her-a-mask-karen/
