SERVICE INFO & OBIT FOR ANNE HASTINGS MOSS

Born in New York City in 1933, Anne was the only child of George Aubrey Hastings of Malone, NY (a speechwriter for President Hoover), and Rose West Hastings, a third-generation New Orleanian (and Queen of Rex in 1911). She attended Tulane's Sophie Newcomb College where she studied art history.

She was a model in the 1950s, when she shot the cover of Smoke Rings, a record featuring the Casa Loma Orchestra. She was also part of Clairol's original "Does she or doesn't she?" campaign. In addition, she did editorial "shoots" for Harper's Bazaar, and worked with such notable photographers as Irving Penn and Lillian Bassman.

A lifetime artist, her work took many forms, including drawing, stitchery, macrame, and batik. She was one of thirty women invited by Irene Preston Miller to participate in the creation of the historic Hudson River Quilt (the first "quilt for a cause" according to the New York Times) in 1969, and created the square which included images of the fish of the Hudson River, namely shad, striped bass, and sturgeon. The quilt was later auctioned off at Sotheby's and became part of the permanent collection of The American Craft Museum in New York City.

Anne's artistic medium of choice was stained glass, a form she worked in for over thirty years. Her work was exhibited in local galleries, as well as at the Whitney Museum's Store Next Door in New York City. She was commissioned to create stained glass windows for homes throughout Westchester County, and many New Yorkers commissioned her work for installation in their apartments.

She and her husband, Lloyd Moss (an announcer on WQXR for 53 years, who predeceased Anne in 2013), moved to Croton shortly after they were married in 1959, and spent the rest of their lives between their homes in Croton and New York City.

She is survived by her children; Bradley Shields (Jocelyn Fujii), Brice Moss, Liana Moss, and N. West Moss (Craig Lombardi), as well as her two grandchildren.

The family asks that donations be made in Anne's name to the Innocence Project at https://innocenceproject.org/donate/ .

All services are private.

----BIDEN'S DOJ EMBRACES BIAS AND ANTI RELIGIOUS BIGOTRY---Do you believe a baker has the right not to bake cakes for same-sex weddings ?

Do you believe church daycare programs have just as much of a right as other such programs to apply for state grants?

Do you think pregnancy centers should not be forced by the government to tell pregnant women where to get an abortion ?

If you support the First Amendment rights of any of these entities, then President Joe Biden’s Department of Justice believes you're a bigot unworthy of associating with — or at least that is the message the department sends by protecting a senior DOJ official who attacked the nation’s leading legal advocate of religious liberty. EDUCATION ISSUES IN THE NEWS: RANDI WEINGARTEN AND HER TEACHERS UNIONS OWN THE TRAGEDY OF KIDS' MASSIVE LEARNING LOSS DURING SCHOOL CLOSURES

THREE ITEMS:

Randi Weingarten and her teachers unions own the tragedy of kids’ massive learning loss during school closures

Scores on the national reading and math tests plummeted during the pandemic — a tragedy of epic proportions. Those who pushed to keep schools closed need to be held accountable, starting with the teachers unions, and their top boss, Randi Weingarten.

Overall, 9-year-olds scored, on average, seven points lower on the National Assessment of Educational Progress’ math test last winter than two years earlier, just before the pandemic erupted. That’s the steepest fall ever. They also scored five points lower in English, the sharpest plunge in 30 years.

Math scores for black students — who tend to live in areas where the unions kept schools closed longest — fell a whopping 13 points. (Talk about “systemic racism”!)  MORE AT Randi Weingarten and unions own the tragedy of kids' learning loss (nypost.com)

AND

Test scores show how teacher’s union head Randi Weingarten damaged an entire generation of kids

In a surprise to nearly no one, children’s reading and math scores have plummeted. National Assessment of Educational Progress, nicknamed “the nation’s report card,” results show the first-ever drop in math and the largest drop in reading in more than 30 years. Black children had an even bigger collapse in scores. Decades of educational progress undone. Poof.

Horrific. Stupid. Unnecessary.

We know the school closures did this. It wasn’t the COVID virus. It was the hyper-political reaction, from the left, on reopening schools during the pandemic.

The orders came from the top. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued the directives. Kids had to be kept six feet apart in classrooms. Why? To this day, no one knows. It made no sense when implemented, since we knew the COVID virus was airborne, and it made even less sense when it arbitrarily switched it to three feet later in the 2021 school year.

Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, kept flipping back and forth on school opening before finally settling on the nakedly partisan position of arguing that President Biden’s spending plan must pass before schools could open. This was in February 2021, when schools around the country in places that didn’t live or die by his whims had been open for months.

But absolutely no one did more damage to children than American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten...MORE AT https://nypost.com/2022/09/01/test-scores-show-how-randi-weingarten-damaged-a-generation-of-kids/.

New Data Show COVID School Closures Contributed to Largest Learning Loss in Decades Teachers unions and progressive politicians pushed for school closures during the pandemic.
