The baby bottle drive netted $4,194 ~ 100% of which goes to support the eight crisis pregnancy centers of Expectant Mother Care which are located near and sometimes in the same building as abortion centers. Thank you for your support, this truly makes a difference for mothers in crisis and their children. 8-20-2023.pub (parishesonline.com)

QUICK UPDATE ON BERENSON V. BIDEN

Massive motions to dismiss from the government, Pfizer, and Andy Slavitt are fast approaching, as the defendants desperately try to block discovery

ALEX BERENSON--AUG 17, 2023

The media is doing its best to ignore Berenson v Biden, my lawsuit trying to hold the White House and senior Pfizer officials accountable for their efforts to censor me in 2021.

You know who isn’t?

The Department of Justice.

Yesterday, the assistant United States attorneys representing President Biden and the other government defendants asked federal district Judge Jessica Clarke if they could file an extra-long brief to support their motion to dismiss, which is due next Tuesday.

The motion to dismiss is crucial, not just for the obvious reason that the lawsuit cannot move forward if Judge Clarke grants it but because we cannot easily serve discovery requests on the defendants until she rules on it. (Discovery in civil lawsuits essentially gives both sides a form of subpoena power, allowing each side to make the other to turn over internal documents and answer questions under oath. Defendants routinely try to block it until a case has moved past the motion to dismiss stage.)

It’s hardly an exaggeration to say the case really starts if and when we survive the motion to dismiss.

Under the federal rules governing civil suits, briefs are supposed to be no more than 30 pages. This time, though, the lawyers say they need extra space - up to 50 pages in all - to address “the various jurisdictional and constitutional issues that are implicated by Plaintiff’s action.” [emphasis added]

Yep, they’re acknowledging the constitutional issues at stake here. MORE AT Quick update on Berenson v Biden - by Alex Berenson (substack.com)

PLANNING DISCUSSION BEGINS FOR CORTLANDT MOD PROJECT

Planning Discussion Begins for Project in Cortlandt MOD
August 16, 2023--Rick Pezzullo

A conceptual discussion of one of the two projects planned in the area of NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital on Route 6 took place last month before the Cortlandt Planning Board.

While specific details of Evergreen Manor were not unveiled at the July 25 meeting, David Steinmetz, attorney for Val and Mandy Santucci of VS Construction, said he wanted to whet the board’s appetite for site plans that will be reviewed Sept. 5.

“My clients have been waiting seven years to get to this moment and time,” Steinmetz said. “We’ve been waiting a long time to get to this point in the process. We’re here tonight to introduce the entire project.”

On March 20, the Cortlandt Town Board voted unanimously to create a Medical Oriented District (MOD), paving the way for Evergreen Manor and another development known as Gyrodyne, which is set to be a 154,000-square-foot medical building across from the hospital.

The MOD was first proposed in 2015 during the town’s review of a new Comprehensive Plan. The district was reduced following lengthy public input from 105 acres and 34 parcels to 69 acres and 13 parcels.

After undergoing several changes, Evergreen Manor representatives are looking to build 120 assisted and independent living units, 99 townhouses and between 7,000 and 10,000 square feet of commercial space on 28 acres.  MORE AT Planning Discussion Begins for Project in Cortlandt MOD | The Examiner News

TARGET--SHOPLIFTING---MORE VIOLENT THEFTS AT TARGET---DOUBLED THIS YEAR---CEO---NY POST

Thefts at Target have become increasingly violent and dangerous for staffers, the retail giant’s CEO told investors on Wednesday.  Shoplifting that included “violence of threats of violence” surged 120% during the first five months of the year, said Brian Cornell, chief executive of the Minneapolis-based big-box chain.  “Our team continues to face an unacceptable amount of retail theft and organized retail crime,” Cornell said during the company’s second-quarter earnings call. “Unfortunately, safety incidents associated with theft are moving in the wrong direction.”  More at Violent thefts at Target more than doubled this year: CEO (nypost.com)

FROM THE MAILBOX.....

A reader writes: "I am surprised, given the progressive stand of so much of Croton, that it does not have a wellness center or a yoga school, or offer much in the way of vegan or vegetarian options."

Wow.

Normally your editor would have simply hit the delete button on this one but it had to be responded to.

Croton has had not one, but TWO "wellness centers"---in the Upper Village.  The operative word here is HAD; let it suffice to say that both closed not long ago.  If however, you are seeking "healthy cooking" options--or nutrition advice---you could contact THE ORGANIC TEACHING KITCHEN at Home - The Organic Teaching Kitchen

With respect to yoga, the village has had yoga studios; the operative word again is HAD.  There are however, assorted yoga opportunities in the area if you look.  For example, HUMBLE WARRIOR SPIRIT was holding classes at Out Saviour; contact them directly at THE NEW EVERYTHING CROTON: HUMBLE WARRIOR SPIRIT YOGA SECOND SATURDAY EVERY MONTH AT OUR SAVIOUR

Vegan is not big here in the village but there are vegan, gluten-free and vegetarian opportunities at Raga Indian and Asagao,  Good Choice, the vegan kitchen in Ossining, has closed.  There are also local farmer's markets; click here.

The reader is encouraged to open any new business they feel the village is lacking.  We'll certainly get the word out.

As many of you know by now. the large oak known as the MERWIN OAK in Vassallo Park fell in 2022. You can read and see more about that at THE NEW EVERYTHING CROTON: THE MERWIN OAK, VASSALLO PARK TREE HAS FALLEN

Click on the photo to see the "replacement" tree planted in the old Merwin Oak spot.

THE DPW cleverly preserved the tree as a bench---read ore about that at THE NEW EVERYTHING CROTON: MERWIN OAK TREE PRESERVED AS A BENCH
