NEWS--ANDREW CHAPADOS--May 11, 2023--A French transgender sprinter criticized the World Athletics Council's decision to ban men from competing in women's international track and field events, which will prevent the sprinter from competing in the Olympics. Halba Diouf, who was born male but identifies as a female Muslim, took issue with the international body's ruling that went into effect on March 31, 2023. OBITUARY AND SERVICE INFO FOR JANE THERESA (DORRY) PECKEL
She was married to George J. Schiller in 1959 and had two children, Catherine Ann and Stephen John. She is predeceased by her husband George in 1977. She married Alan T. Peckel in 1987.
She is also preceded in death by her son Stephen, sister Ann (Dorry) Morris, her husband Alan, and her stepson Eric Peckel.
Jane is survived by her Children: Catherine (Schiller) Culliton (son-in-law Gerald F. Culliton); and two stepdaughters Linda and Nancy Peckel, and her three Grandchildren, Hannah Irene and Abigail Jane Culliton, and step grandchild, Jared De Toro.
Jane grew up and attended school in New York City before moving to Brewster, NY and eventually residing for over 35 years in Croton on Hudson, NY.

AFT President Randi Weingarten's claims that she advocated to reopen schools during the COVID-19 pandemic were called out multiple times by fact-checkers using Twitter's Community Notes feature, where users pointed to her old rhetoric warning against putting kids back in the classroom.
"We worked together 3 years ago to get our kids back to in person schooling in a way that was safe for kids & staff. There was much unknown & much fear. NY helped w/needed science backed guidance & resources. Quite a contrast then from DeVos & DeSantis," Weingarten tweeted in one instance, responding to Kyle Belokopisky, executive director at the New York State Congress of Parents and Teachers (NYSPTA) who has previously posted marveling at the 3-year anniversary of working to get New York's children back in the classroom.
