BY SPECIAL REQUEST---BARBIE DOLLS--THE CROTON CONNECTION

Welcome to The New Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

WITH "BARBIE"-on the big screen--we've had a request:

Yes...we admit it unashamedly.....we're big fans of Barbie in all her vintage Wasp-Waisted, Pony-Tail, Black-eyeliner and/or Bubble-Cut glory. (Click on the photo.) And we love some of the newer assorted holiday Barbie dolls too.

But we never knew there was any sort of historical Croton connection until we perused FOREVER BARBIE by M.G. Lord. The book is not for everyone---whether you are a fan or not---but right there on page 36 was the following about Barbie doll inventor Ruth Handler and....

Page 36

AS STRATEGY SESSIONS BEGAN IN HAWTHORNE, THE Handlers made a brilliant tactical move. They commissioned a toy study from Ernest Dichter, Ph.D., director of the Institute for Motivational Research in Croton-on-Hudson, New York. The study cost a staggering $12,000 and took six months to complete, but when it was finished the charge seemed low. Dichter had masterminded a cunning campaign to peddle Barbie.....

And the rest as they say....is history.

You can find the book, FOREVER BARBIE, BY M.G. LORD, on AMAZON HERE.

HASIDIM, SULLIVAN COUNTY, IN THE NEWS---SEEK TO FORGE THEIR OWN VILLAGE WITH 929 ACRES---LOHUD

Welcome to The New Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

As this relates to local issues:

Vinit Hasidim in Sullivan County seek to forge their own village with 929 acres---KIAMESHA LAKE - A synagogue meeting room in the Catskills was packed with congregants and visitors alike on Thursday evening, as a contentious public matter got its first airing in that religious space.

At a hearing led by two town supervisors, residents weighed in on a petition by the Viznitz Hasidic community to form its own village, a nearly 1.5-square-mile area that takes in its small enclave and hundreds of acres of surrounding woods. Located mostly in the town of Thompson and partly in Fallsburg, the village of Ateres would have its own leaders and laws, including zoning rules to shape future development.  MORE AT Viznitz Hasidic group petitions for village in Thompson, Fallsburg (lohud.com)

IN THE NEWS---ALABAMA LIBRARY CAVES AFTER BRAVE BOOKS AND KIRK CAMERON STAND UP TO ITS ATTEMPT TO DENY VENUE---FOR OUR CAMERON FANS

Alabama library caves after Brave Books and Kirk Cameron stand up to its attempt to deny Americans a venue--

Story by Maureen Mackey •9h

Kirk Cameron: 'This is open intolerance for religious beliefs'--FIRST ON FOX — A library in Alabama has reversed its decision from earlier this week to cancel a book reading event.  It will now indeed welcome actor Kirk Cameron and his publisher, Brave Books, on Saturday, August 5, for the nationwide "See You at the Library" event.

The Huntsville-Madison County Public Library System in Huntsville, Alabama, had said in a release on Wednesday afternoon that it would no longer accommodate the book reading event due to concerns about logistics and security as popularity for the event grew this week.

Almost immediately afterward, Cameron and Brave Books challenged that decision to cancel it. MORE AT Alabama library caves after Brave Books and Kirk Cameron stand up to its attempt to deny Americans a venue (msn.com)
