They’re saying a little prayer.

One activist group based in Norway is calling for Aretha Franklin’s hit 1968 song “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” to be removed from both Apple Music and Spotify after they deemed its lyrics offensive.

The Trans Cultural Mindfulness Alliance (TCMA) took to Twitter last week to condemn the ballad, citing that it has ignited harm against transgender women.

“Aretha Franklin’s 1968 song ‘Natural Woman’ perpetuates multiple harmful anti-trans stereotypes,” the organization tweeted. “There is no such thing as a ‘natural’ woman. More at Aretha Franklin song ‘Natural Woman’ blasted by transgender activists (msn.com)

VINTAGE VALENTINE'S DAY CANDY: A LITTLE HISTORY OF SWEETHEARTS A.K.A. CONVERSATION HEARTS AND MUCH MORE

You remember them.....Each heart is printed with a message such as "Be Mine", "Kiss Me", "Call Me", "Let's Get Busy", or "Miss You".

FROM MENTALFLOSS--Valentine's Day means chalky candy hearts with a lot to say. But what's behind these very loud little candies?

The story of conversation hearts began in 1847, when a Boston pharmacist named Oliver Chase longed for a way to get in on the apothecary lozenge craze. Lozenges were quickly gaining steam as the medicine conveyance of choice, and were also popular remedies for sore throats and bad breath. But making lozenges was complicated and time-consuming—the process involved a mortar and pestle, kneading dough, rolling it out, and cutting it into discs that would eventually become lozenges. There had to be a better way, and Oliver came up with it. READ MORE AT https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/61510/history-conversation-heart

FROM THE CROTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY ARCHIVES: THE MYSTERY OF THE LARKIN PLACE SKELETON BY ELISE SASSO--BY SPECIAL REQUEST

Welcome to the New Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short EVERYTHING CROTON Croton.

Sisters Joyce Finnerty (the late village historian) and Elise Sasso had a deep abiding love of Croton's history. Their articles on the village have truly stood the test of time.Back by popular demand, here's part one of THE MYSTERY OF THE LARKIN PLACE SKELETON, 2008, by ELISE SASSO

“Through the years I had often heard the story of an Indian being discovered in our yard, so I asked my mother to tell me her recollections. She related the following story to me.” Joyce Finnerty, Village Historian.

The Discovery: “It was an early spring morning, March 21, 1935, to be exact. When my mother, Catherine Ottaviano was going to plant some flowers in her small front yard garden. While digging, the neighbor’s little dog came over and started digging along side her. While digging they unearthed what appeared to be the top of a ball, but upon closer observation she discovered it was the top of a skull. She went across the street to get her neighbor Mrs. Spink and then went in to call the police.”

“Patrolman Robert Zippo came and started to uncover the skeleton, Chief Dobbs was called and thinking it was a crime scene he called Dr. Amos Squires, the Medical Examiner from Ossining. After seeing the skeleton he called the head of Indian Affairs from New York City."

“The skeleton was found in a fetal position on its right side. The skull was cracked across the top of the head and showed scalping scars, (according to Leslie Vern Case). The site was high and well drained and the skeleton was resting on limestone, which probably helped preserve it”. My mother also told me” that the skeleton lay in an open grave for almost a week before it was removed and it frightened her to have to go outside in the dark.” Where the skeleton is today is unknown:

The Theory: Amateur archeologist Leslie Verne Case was notified about the find and pictures of the skeleton were made. Mr. Case developed his theory from the bones, which showed they were from a male who in life appeared to have been six feet tall. The right tibia showed an apparent fracture, which would have caused a limp. The teeth were well intact and grinding surfaces indicated that he was more than fifty years old. The general condition of the bones would indicate that he lived about three hundred years ago. In 1935 Mr. Case wrote an article in the Westchester Historian explaining his theory. A lame Indian was a rarity and the more so if he were a chief. History records only one such Indian in Westchester County whose characteristic limp is associated with his name. He was known to the English as, “Limping Will”, of Mamaroneck, a chief, who lived in 1644 at Dobbs Ferry. His name “Will” has shown up on many of the Indian land sale documents. Is this just a coincidence?

COVID RECKONING---NEW ZEALAND'S PRIME MINISTER IS THE FIRST COVID TYRANT TO FALL, BUT SHE WON'T BE THE LAST

New Zealand’s Prime Minister Is The First Covid Tyrant To Fall, But She Won’t Be The Last

New Zealand’s Prime Minister Is The First Covid Tyrant To Fall, But She Won’t Be The Last

Authoritarians want us to forget the suffering we endured in the last three years and move on. But many people demand a Covid reckoning.

HELEN RALEIGH

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced her resignation this week after being the nation’s leader for six years. She cited “burnout” as the reason. But many believe Ardern chose to exit early because she expected to face a humiliating defeat in this year’s election. Many Kiwis (a nickname for New Zealanders) are fed up with her government’s harsh Covid-19 restrictions.

Ardern was only 37 when she was elected as prime minister. She championed leftists’ favorite causes, such as climate change and so-called gender equality. She rose to international fame following the 2019 Christchurch terrorist attack, when a gunman killed 51 people in two mosques. Ardern quickly introduced a strict gun law that banned all “military-style” semi-automatic guns and so-called “assault rifles,” and established a mandatory gun “buyback” program. Arden also wore a hijab to show her respect for the Muslim community. She became a leftist darling and gained fans worldwide. Her images adorned the cover of Time and Vogue. In many ways, she became the AOC of New Zealand.

It turned out the strict gun law Ardern championed failed to curb gun crimes. On the contrary, gun crimes rose to a 10-year high after the law went into effect, according to Radio New Zealand. But the pandemic was really the defining moment for Ardern and revealed that she is not the compassionate democracy defender she wanted us to believe.

In early 2020, when New Zealand had only 100 Covid cases, Ardern took the “go hard and go early” approach and imposed some of the world’s strictest lockdowns. READ MORE AT

EDUCATION ISSUES: OHIO DISTRICT ACCUSED OF INAPPROPRIATE GENDER, SEXUALITY CONVERSATIONS

Ohio school district accused of inappropriate gender, sexuality conversations

by By J.D. Davidson | The Center Square

 January 22, 2023 09:04 AM

(The Center Square) – A suburban Columbus school district has 21 days to respond to a federal lawsuit the school’s superintendent said is filled with misstatements and mischaracterizations.

The litigation filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio wants teachers in the Hilliard City School District to stop talking to students about gender and sexuality without parental consent and alleges the schools are keeping sexual activity and mental health information from parents.

Joshua Brown, the attorney for the eight parents, said Thursday he expects to file an amendment complaint at some point with more parents joining the lawsuit. The parents are not seeking monetary damages; rather, they want the court to issue a declaratory judgement that they say would “firmly establish constitutional rights to direct the upbringing of their children,” according to a news release from the parents
