CORTLANDT — A representative from Holtec International said Thursday that the company had pushed forward the date to dump radioactive water from the closed Indian Point nuclear plant into the Hudson River by several months so that it could clean boric acid off the steel liner in the facility.  MORE AT Indian Point owner tries to assuage fears about radioactive water (timesunion.com)

IN THE NEWS---FAUCI IS JUST A SYMPTOM OF AN INCOMPETENT ENTRENCHED BUREAUCRACY

Fauci is just a symptom of an incompetent, entrenched bureaucracy By Becket Adams, Contributor

April 29, 2023 06:00 AM

In the 1978 comedy Animal House, the character Flounder is distressed to find his 1964 Lincoln Continental badly wrecked following a string of hijinks with his fraternity brothers.

A friend jokingly consoles the blubbering Flounder, telling him, “You f***ed up. You trusted us.”

The line was meant as a joke, a bit of tongue-in-cheek ribbing for the role Flounder’s fraternity brothers played in the trashing of his car. It’s a perfectly outrageous thing to say in a perfectly outrageous comedy. It’s funny because it’s a sentiment that should never be uttered in sincerity. Certainly, one wouldn’t dare to use it as a real-life defense for the mismanagement of a real-life public health debacle.

But this is exactly what we got this week from Dr. Anthony Fauci, who, more than anyone else in public health, is responsible for the federal government’s ham-handed, dimwitted, and completely backward response to the COVID-19 pandemic. He really suggested — in all sincerity — that it’s your own damn fault for taking him seriously.  MORE AT Fauci is just a symptom of an incompetent, entrenched bureaucracy (washingtonexaminer.com)

1981 LEONORE DOSKOW

Stumbled across this 1981 ad for Mother's Day featuring the latest jewelry from Leonore Doskow, Inc.  CLICK ON THE IMAGE.

For those who don't know, the Doskows lived on Finney Farm. A world renowned silversmith , Leonore began her career while still a college student when she received permission from her dean to make her jewelry in the science laboratory. After studying Art History at the Sorbonne in Paris for a summer, she opened a tiny shop in Philadelphia. After a few years, she and her husband moved to New York City, but it was the middle of the Depression and they found themselves unemployed with a baby on the way. Lenore would make items like tie clips in large batches at home, and her husband David would sell them to gift shops and boutiques. They moved to Westchester in 1941, where their business flourished. She and her husband owned and operated Leonore Doskow, Inc., a jewelry company selling to upscale stores around the country from 1935 until the 1980s, when her son and his wife took over the company. Many of her early, pins, necklaces and bracelets are collector’s items. She died in 2009 at the age of 97 (info via The Croton Historical Society)

BLACK WESTCHESTER---CATHERINE BORGIA ANNOUNCES SHE RESIGNS AS CHAIRWOMAN

Catherine Borgia Announces She Resigns As Chairwoman of the Board, Vice Chair Nancy Barr Becomes Acting Chairperson

The saga of Westchester Board of Legislator staffer Anand Singh being caught soliciting sex from who he thought was a 14-year-old girl in New Jersey and the controversy of who knew when, may be coming closer to an end.

After a state Supreme Court Judge Robert J. Prisco lifted a Temporary Restraining Order issued earlier this week that stopped the Board of Legislators from voting to remove her, Westchester Board Of Legislators (BOL) Chairwoman Catherine Borgia has resigned her leadership position, Friday.

Borgia released a statement reaffirming that she believes this was politically motivated and it is a precedent that will dangerously weaken the board.

Effective today, Friday April 28, 2023, at 3:30 pm, I resigned as Chairwoman of the Westchester County Board of Legislators. It has been a great honor to serve as Chairwoman and I am very proud of the work that the Board of Legislators has been able to accomplish in partnership with staff and the County Executive’s administration. Although I believe there is significant work still to be done for the people of Westchester, after today I will be doing so as a Legislator representing District 9 and not as leader of this institution until my term ends in December 2023. As was noted by the very colleagues who sought my resignation as Chairwoman, my legislative, budgetary, and personal accomplishments during my time of service on this legislature are extraordinary and cannot be erased.

I believe the events of the past days have been politically motivated and based in institutional misogyny that is all too pervasive in the brutal, reactive, and mean-spirited political world in which we all now live.  READ MORE AT Catherine Borgia Announces She Resigns As Chairwoman of the Board, Vice Chair Nancy Barr Becomes Acting Chairperson - Black Westchester Magazine
