NOVEMBER 3, 2023 UPDATE ON THE FINKELSTEIN PROPERTY VIA THE CROTON CHRONICLE

Welcome to The New Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short Everything Croton.

Update Nov 3, 2023 (from a post on the Croton Community Facebook page)

UPDATE ON THE FINKELSTEIN PROPERTY VIA THE CROTON CHRONICLE

Last weekend I reported here and in The Croton Chronicle that the Finkelstein tire property had been sold to a trio of partners led by Monday Properties (main HQ in NYC.) A news story announcing the sale was first spotted by Maria Cudequest, publisher of The New Everything Croton blog.

Rumors had long circulated about the upcoming sale, along with rumors that the new owners and the village were planning to construct a 300 unit apartment complex at the site. I believe some here may be aware of these rumors, as they have been mentioned on at least one of our local Facebook pages.

Until the sale, I did not give a lot of credence to the rumors, nor did I follow up on them aggressively.

However, after the sale, I began reporting more intensively on this. Given that the rumors were emanating not only from within the village administration but also circulating in the Croton real estate community, last Sunday I asked village manager Bryan Healy to comment on them and also to tell us what the village knew about the new owner’s plans and when it first knew about the sale, along with related questions.

Mr. Healy did not respond after a number of reminders, which was very unusual for him—he is usually fairly good at communicating, at least with me in my role as a reporter.

Meanwhile, I contacted Monday Properties. A representative of the company sent me the same statements that it had previously published about the purchase, but the company specifically declined to comment on its plans for the Finkelstein site.

I finally got a response this morning directly from Mayor Brian Pugh. Here is what he said (an on the record email):

“Good morning,

Thank you for your email. I believe in transparency and that means making accurate information available to all.

Earlier this week, I asked the manager to reach out to the new owner of the property and inquire as to their current plans for the property. After that conversation happens, he will give an update to the board at our next public meeting.

Thank you again & take care,”

So we should expect (or hope) to hear more at the next BoT meeting. I am sure whatever the information is, it will be of interest to the entire Croton community. Whatever is done at the site will obviously have major impact on the village, and residents of Croton may well want to have some significant input into those decisions.

ABOUT THAT CROTON GORGE TRAIL FALL VICTIM....

Welcome to The New Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short Everything Croton.

MORE FROM THE FB PAGE - Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department
Around 5:20 PM Saturday, Croton EMS, the Ossining EMS Paramedic Fly-Car, Westchester County Police and the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department were called to the Croton Gorge Trail for a fall victim. Answering this call were E118, TL44, R18 and 2081.  Upon the arrival of Car 2081, he located the injured party in the wooded hill between the Gorge Park and the upper trailway. Due to significant rainfall the past few months, a portion of this trailway has been washed out limiting emergency vehicle access, so U253 - a UTV from Yorktown FD - was dispatched in case needed for patient extraction.
Thanks to our dispatchers at 60 Control also, they were able to send our Chief the exact mapping position of the aided using RapidSOS so that we could locate the injured and care could be rendered swiftly. A coordinated and swift effort by CEMS, WCPD, 36M1 & CFD personnel packaging the patient and getting her to the awaiting Ambulance was achieved in 15 minutes. Due to this, we canceled the response of U253.

The patient, whom reportedly fell down the embankment up to 50 feet and had head and other non-life-threatening injuries, was taken to Westchester Medical Center by EMS.

This was just another solid example of teamwork between all agencies - starting from dispatch - to best assist someone in need.
