BOB ANDERSON ON MARCH ELECTIONS AND MORE---A LETTER

Welcome to The New Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

THE FOLLOWING LETTER FROM BOB ANDERSON APPEARED IN LAST WEEK'S EDITION OF THE GAZETTE---(After Easter, additional background info will be posted here. Stay tuned.) In the meantime:

To the Editor,

A biased opinion to follow. The villages of Briarcliff and Buchanan held their LOCAL elections this past Tuesday. The village of Croton did not. There used to be local village elections in Croton but that changed a few years back when the claim was made that it would be a money saving measure, to include our village elections with the national and state contests. That turned out not be true. In fact, it was a way to consolidate the power of a single political party and eliminate the open discussions and debates on local issues that happened with a village election. When linked to the national and state elections, the local issues are lost. Unfortunately, voters will vote for the party and not the person.

I often think of the Rockwell painting in the meeting room where every individual can have a voice, and wonder if that is true any longer in our Village. I believe that many of our new residents might benefit from the process of learning about local politics and the village where they now live. Our Village Board has made many resolutions and laws contrary to the public opinion voiced in open meetings.

I would propose the Board resolve to move Village elections back to March, as they used to be. Given the speed at which they have moved on affordable housing, speed limits, Gouveia, etc., I don't think this would pose a problem.

Bob Anderson

FOR THE EASTER SEASON FROM OUR FRIENDS AT EFSP: THE KING OF KINGS (1927)

In honor of the season: A post from last year and our friends at European Film Star Postcards:  The King of Kings (1927) CLICK ON THE PHOTO BELOW

American silent epic The King of Kings (1927) was produced and directed by Cecil B. DeMille. It was the second in DeMille's biblical trilogy, preceded by The Ten Commandments (1923) and followed by The Sign of the Cross (1932). The King of Kings depicts the last weeks of Jesus before his crucifixion and stars H. B. Warner in the lead role. This classic DeMille shows his storytelling talent and his showmanship by delivering a spectacle like no other. The film has two Technicolor sequences, the beginning and the resurrection scene, which use the two-strip process invented by Herbert Kalmus. The King of Kings was the first film premiered at Grauman's Chinese Theater in Los Angeles on 18 May 1927. The postcards in this post were made in Germany, France and Austria, and the stills were made by William Mortensen with a hand-held camera.  READ and SEE MORE AT European Film Star Postcards: The King of Kings (1927)

HUDSON RIDGE WELLNESS, NEARBY TOWN OF CORTLANDT--FOR THOSE OPPOSED, PROPOSAL WELLNESS CENTER IS A HEADACHE

Welcome to The New Everything Croton--a collection of all things Croton, our history, our homes, our issues, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

(PLEASE NOTE IT'S ACTUALLY IN CORTLANDT AND NOT THE VILLAGE BUT CLOSE ENOUGH.)

Otherwise, a very detailed article.

To Those Opposed, Proposed Wellness Center Is a Headache
Jim Roberts — March 25, 2024

Hudson Ridge Wellness Center says it intends to re-use – not remove — the existing real estate at 2016 Quaker Ridge Road, site of the former Hudson Institute

Following nearly a decade of expensive court battles, and eight months after winning town approvals, the principal behind a proposed luxury rehabilitation center in Croton-on-Hudson must now win certification from the state agency that licenses medical facilities before the center can start operating.

With three experienced rehab facilities managers in place and $3 million of new financing, Kevin Cassidy, the controversial businessman behind the project, seems determined to pursue his goal of opening the facility on the Quaker Ridge Road section of the village, set on a picturesque setting high above the Hudson River.

The special use permit granted by the Town of Cortlandt to Hudson Ridge Wellness Center in June 2023, with several dozen conditions regarding operations, is in force for one year and expires June 2024. Within that one-year span, they must meet all of the conditions of their approval, and get the department heads and chair of the Planning Board to sign the drawing set, completing the Planning Board process. So far there doesn’t appear to have been any work done to renovate the existing buildings for the new center.  MORE AT
