INFORMATIONAL NO MAN'S LAND---DAVID THUNDER

One of the remarkable features of these Covid years is the amount of misleading and downright false information emitted by “official” sources, most notably public health authorities, government-appointed regulators, and mainstream media. A part of me hankers after the times when I could trust my government and media in a time of crisis. But if I am honest with myself, I have to admit that I’d prefer to live uncomfortably in the truth than comfortably in a fantasy built for me by someone who does not have my best interests at heart.

As somone who turned on a daily basis to the website of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for updates on the Covid outbreak in February and March 2020, I was especially shocked and disappointed by the abysmal failure of authoritative bodies to impartially report the evidence bearing on masking, vaccinations, lockdowns, PCR testing, and other aspects of pandemic policy. My whole faith in the political, media, and scientific establishment, limited as it was, was shaken to the core.

We have been betrayed by the people charged with sharing the best available data and information with us in a time of crisis. We have been lied to and deceived about matters of life and death, such as the risk-benefit tradeoffs of the Covid vaccines, not only by the pharmaceutical industry, but by the people who occupy leading positions of public authority in our society.

Our politicians have sold us “solutions” to Covid that were far, far worse than the disease, and have generally refused to admit to their mistakes, even when they saw the comparative success of regimes like Sweden and Florida that went a very different direction.

Among the more egregious falsehoods that were either stated or implied by official authorities, and uncritically echoed by mainstream media, are the following:The notion that community masking was supported by strong scientific evidence. It never was (here is the latest Cochrane review of evidence for mask efficacy).

The idea that it was critical that young and healthy people get vaccinated, if not for themselves, then for the sake of “granny and granddad.” This idea was empirically baseless, since we did not have any good evidence to show that these vaccines prevented transmission at the time these claims were made.

The idea that toddlers and young children and teenagers with no serious health issues could benefit from receiving a Covid vaccine. There is absolutely no evidence to suggest that children’s risk from Covid is significant enough to warrant their exposure to a vaccine that has sparked a significant number of adverse events and whose long-term risks to children are still not well understood.

The idea that sheltering in place for months on end would effectively stop a respiratory virus from spreading through the community, rather than just deferring the inevitable and inflicting enormous social and human costs in the meantime. This was a dangerous and revolutionary proposition that had no strong empirical evidence to support it.

The idea that a person who tested positive in a PCR test, but had absolutely no clinical symptoms of Covid-related disease, should count as a Covid “case” or that the death of such a person was a “Covid” death.  I could go on........... more at Informational No Man’s Land ⋆ Brownstone Institute

THE CROTON 125 COMMITTEE THANKS EVERYONE WHO MADE OUR BBQ, MUSIC & FRIENDS EVENT SUCH AN ENORMOUS SUCCESS

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton -- our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship -- in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

PLEAE NOTE---ADDITIONAL PHOTOS IN THE GAZETTE, WEEK OF JUNE 22 THROUGH 28; the paper is on sale just about everywhere.

To the Editor,

The Croton 125 Committee thanks all who made our BBQ, Music & Friends event such an enormous success.

The committee is tremendously grateful to Historic Hudson Valley CEO Peter Pockriss and President Waddell Stillman for opening the Van Cortlandt Manor property for our BBQ. The staff, Fiona Galloway, Carlton Sargeant, Ben Roeser, and Karen Clark were beyond helpful during the long planning process. High kudos to the creative team that made the “Croton 125th” letters and numbers displayed on the hillside. The letters and numbers were used as the backdrop for many photos. The volunteers who gave tours of the Manor House and the Ferry house were kind, knowledgeable, and informative. We are immensely grateful to all!

Musicians of International Orange, Wild Irish Way, and Connie Grossman y Su Charanga wowed the crowd with an eclectic mix of music. Our MC Mario Giacalone did a fantastic job keeping things running on time and was a consummate professional MC and wonderful musician.  Professional and immensely talented musician Peter Calo assisted the committee in choosing the musicians, and the music that brought joy to all is due to Peter’s generosity with his time and talent. We look forward to his Croton 125 Summer concert on August 4, at 7 pm at Senasqua.

We are grateful to Cole’s for providing a delicious meal while the Green Growler provided thirst quenching beer, wine, and cider for purchase.

The Village DPW staff Frank Balbi, Scott Marsh, and John Bouchard put in an extraordinary amount of preplanning, day of event, and post event work. The DPW staff who worked the day of event made everyone feel welcome and made the event run flawlessly. They are Mr. Bouchard, Mike Esposito, Domenic Cassese, Chris Antonecchia, Nico Franggi, and Adam Burlew.  DPW Office Assistant Debra Lopano created helpful and attractive signage to assist drivers navigate the parking lot and attendees on Van Cortlandt grounds.

Croton’s Police Department Chief Nikitopoulos and Park Ranger Richard Novohardsky did a superb job of assisting motorists in parking and Police Officer John Roper was a wonderful addition to the event in his community policing capacity. He brought smiles to all he stopped to chat with.

The Director of EMS Philip Dinkler volunteered at the event to ensure a rapid response for anyone who might need assistance. Fortunately, no one needed EMS, but it was comforting to know he was there.
Assistant to the Village Manager Emily (Mancini) Giovanni was invaluable with all of her behind-the-scenes assistance with the planning of this event.

We had numerous volunteers who made the event possible: Trustees Len Simon and Ann Gallelli, photographer Jim Christensen, Leif Lindholm, Lucas and Theo Curran, Robert Whiting, Linda Simon, and high school juniors; Jenny from Croton Harmon High School and Emily from Hendrick Hudson High School who assisted in the games area.

We thank the Gazette for covering our BBQ, Music, and Friends event, and all our Croton 125 events throughout the year. The newspaper’s motto says it all, “Where you are front page news.” There is no better local newspaper!

Most of all, thank you to all who attended and made the event so much fun.

Sincerely,
Joe Streany, Carolyn Whiting, Eleanor Kwei, Laurie Dean, Nancy Libow, Matilda Weekes, Joel Gingold, Marc Cheshire, Nicole Belle DeRise, and Nenad Bach

Welcome to the New Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

The Croton Seniors Club welcomed summer at the Croton Yacht Club on Friday the 23rd. Approximately 45 members attended the party and enjoyed delicious American and Italian wedges from the Croton Mini Deli as well as soft drinks and beer. No one went home hungry as the meal was topped off with coffee and cake. Vince Duffy provided a poster/photo of the summer scene from a painting in the municipal building. CROTON F.D. BEST APPEARING COLOR GUARD, DANNY VLAD'S CRISP NAVY DRESS WHITES. AND....

Welcome to the New Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

FROM THE CROTON FIRE DEPT. FB PAGE--- It was a beautiful night for a parade last night to kick off the annual Yorktown Heights Engine Company No. 1 annual carnival!

Several area fire departments, EMS agencies and other organizations marched through the “downtown” Yorktown streets to kick off this annual community event, including the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department. Units attending were 2081, 2083, E120 & R18.
Your CFD came home with the “Best Appearing Color Guard” award, which we can likely attribute member Daniel Vlad’s crisp Navy dress whites, whom is on leave from the USN and came to march with us.
Congratulations to all of the other winners and thank you YHFD for another great parade! For area residents - we encourage you to visit the YHFD Carnival and to get yourselves something to nosh on at “Uncle Martin’s Sausage Factory” - AKA the YHFD Food Booth.
Thanks to @nozzlebuff914 for the photos!
