OBITUARY FOR COLETTE SCHAEFER MAY 3, 1922 – MAY 23, 2023

Colette Schaefer (born Berget), of Croton-on- Hudson passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 3, 1922 in Erstein, France. She was 101 years of age.

Colette was, in a word……remarkable! Our mother lived a remarkably long life, highlighted by boundless enthusiasm and passion. Over 80 years ago she fled France for Montreal, Canada narrowly escaping the rapidly approaching Nazi forces while bridges were literally being blown up right after she had passed over them. She was one of the bravest, smartest and most beautiful women any of us had ever had the honor to know and love. She was in many ways a woman ahead of her times, starting her own lighter company in the early 1950’s, when few women ever thought of running their own company…she was fearless!  MORE AT Colette Schaefer Obituary - Croton-On-Hudson, NY (dignitymemorial.com)

TARGET IS THE LATEST PROOF--GOING WOKE MEAN GOING BROKE

Target Is the Latest Proof—Going Woke Means Going Broke | Opinion
Story by Paul du Quenoy • Thursday

"I think those are just good business decisions, and it's the right thing for society, and it's the great thing for our brand." That's how Target CEO Brian Cornell described his company's diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in mid-May, when conservatives objecting to flamboyantly pro-LGBTQ+ merchandise declared a boycott of the low-end retailer. Within just 10 days of Cornell's statement, Target lost $10 billion, watched its stock price fall daily, and proved yet again that going woke means going

Suffering an unmitigated sales and public relations disaster, Target removed some of the offensive merchandise—which included "tuck-friendly" swimwear—and moved other items to more discreet parts of its stores, walking back the supposed wisdom of marketing to a marginal fringe that advocates a radical gender ideology most Americans reject.

Target, of course, is not alone. Just before its debacle, Anheuser-Busch's beer brand Bud Light cost its parent company more than $15 billion and over 23 percent of its stock valuation in just six weeks after it employed transgender social media personality Dylan Mulvaney to promote its product. Nike and Maybelline, companies for which Mulvaney also recently did promotions, were likewise targeted for boycotts—more at Target Is the Latest Proof—Going Woke Means Going Broke | Opinion (msn.com)

JOHN DANIEL DAVIDSON----NO FORGIVENESS FOR PANDMEIC SINS UNTIL THE GUILTY REPENT

The people who abused their power and imposed tyranny during the pandemic will do it again if we don’t hold them accountable.

JOHN DANIEL DAVIDSON

Christianity Today published a curious piece by Paul Miller on Thursday calling for everyone to forgive each other for our supposed “pandemic sins.”

He doesn’t exactly say who sinned, just that “We got things wrong,” and “Some officials made mistakes in the early days.” Things happened. Mistakes were made. It’s time to move on. Miller’s argument is basically a warmed-over, lightly Christianized version of the essay Brown University economics professor Emily Oster wrote for The Atlantic last November, which argued for a “pandemic amnesty” on account of how “uncertain” and “complicated” things were in the face of a once-in-a-century pandemic like Covid. The ruling class did its best, OK?

Oster’s piece elicited well-deserved scorn from many on the right, including our own Joy Pullmann, who noted that a genuine amnesty “requires an admission of guilt and a commitment to repairing the wrongs done.” The absence of such an admission and commitment to change, says Pullmann, is “an indication that you’re going to do it again,” and makes it impossible to rebuild trust.

Of course, the people responsible for shutting down the economy, closing schools and churches, destroying countless businesses, and condemning the elderly to die alone in their hospital rooms are not at all sorry about what they did. To this day, they don’t acknowledge any wrongdoing whatsoever. Certainly not Anthony Fauci, who in an April interview with The New York Times defiantly faulted ordinary Americans for failing to listen to him, the self-proclaimed embodiment of science.

The same people who needlessly imposed massive learning losses on schoolchildren, or barred families from burying their dead, then foisted an ineffective vaccine on the public and tried to shame or coerce everyone into taking it, regardless of their age or health status.  MORE AT No Forgiveness For Pandemic Sins Until The Guilty Repent (thefederalist.com)

SHOPLIFTING CRISIS IN THE NEWS

Shoplifting crisis is so bad shoppers struggling to find non-locked-up items--You thought locking up Spam was stingy? This is a whole different kettle of fish.

The shoplifting crisis plaguing the nation has become so bad that fed-up shoppers are now struggling to get their hands on even the most basic essentials — which are increasingly being stashed away under heavy lock-and-key.

A $3.99 can of the cheap meat Spam was protected in plastic, anti-theft cases at a Duane Reade in Manhattan’s Port Authority last summer — and now even a lousy tin of tuna at half the price is getting the same treatment at one of the chain’s stores in Penn Station under Madison Square Garden.

The Post visited a handful of shops in the Big Apple on Friday to find a slew of low-priced items —READ MORE AT Shoplifting crisis is so bad shoppers struggling to find non-locked-up items (nypost.com)
