Rockland County has a new law to support its efforts to prevent New York City from boarding asylum seekers in the county.

The law, passed without opposition by county lawmakers on Tuesday night and signed Thursday by County Executive Ed Day, bars any such housing programs except those licensed by the county executive and imposes fines and even a misdemeanor criminal charge for violations.

It's the latest step in a conflict that erupted in May when the city announced plans to move as many as 340 migrants to an Orangetown motel as the city's shelters filled with new arrivals.  More at NYC asylum seeker housing in Rockland County blocked by new law (lohud.com)

ELLE PURNELL---THESE 7 FAILURES SHOULD DISPEL ANY BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT YOU HAVE LEFT FOR THE CORPORATE MEDIA'S HONESTY

These seven failures from the past few weeks should dispel any benefit of the doubt you have left for the corporate media’s honesty.....ELLE PURNELL

American legacy media were busted last week for spreading terrorist propaganda about an “Israeli” “strike” on a Gaza “hospital” that turned out to be nothing but lies — but not before the false narrative ignited anti-America and anti-Israel fury around the world.

The narrative laundering in what was actually a story about a parking lot being hit by Gazan insurgents’ own rocket fire provided a textbook example of how our institutional media frame stories to fit their own prejudices, showing once again that however much you hate the corporate press, it’s not enough. But the hospital news cycle hasn’t been the only example from media coverage of the aftermath of Hamas’ terror attack on Israel to drive that lesson home.

Starting with — but extending far beyond — the hospital story disaster, here are seven failures from the past few weeks that should dispel any benefit of the doubt you have left for the corporate media’s honesty.

CROTON'S STONE HOUSES

Croton’s Stone Houses
The Stone Houses were constructed between 1900 and 1938 on land Elizabeth Stevenson inherited from her father. Except for the first one, Wyndhurst, all the houses were designed by Elizabeth and her son Harvey, who once said his mother had “a unique obsession to plan and build.” Village Historian Marc Cheshire will take us behind the stone walls to see these remarkable homes—two of which are hidden from view—and to learn about some of the famous people who lived in them.

Rep. Mike Lawler has proposed legislation to fight swatting attacks in schools. Swatting is when someone makes a prank call to 911 to get a large, sometimes dangerous police response. Lawler says anyone who makes swatting calls to schools should get up to 20 years in prison. He says more than 500 schools across the country were targes in the last year, including several in the Hudson Valley.
