DoT Engineering Report to Study 9A Improved Safety and Operations

New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez announced on May 11, 2023, that work has commenced on a $3 million engineering study of State Route 9A, also known as Briarcliff-Peekskill Parkway, from U.S. Route 9 to the Saw Mill River Parkway, in Westchester County. The goal of the transportation engineering scoping report is to identify short-term and longer-term investment opportunities to facilitate enhanced safety and operations along the corridor. The report is expected to take ten months to complete and will utilize a local steering committee and a series of public workshops to help evaluate and shape the corridor’s future vision. Orange County executive voices frustration after dozens of migrant men arrive without warning

By: News 12 Staff--Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus took to social media Thursday night to voice his frustration after a bus carrying roughly 60 migrant men arrived in the county. The migrants are expected to stay at the Crossroads hotel for up to four months, despite a state of emergency in Orange County. New York City Mayor Eric Adams' plan to relocate up to 300 asylum seekers to hotels in Rockland and Orange counties remained in turmoil Thursday, with the city facing multiple legal actions just as dozens of migrants arrived at a hotel in Newburgh.

Adams, a Democrat, faced swift political outcry from the right and legal pushback late last week when he announced that asylum seekers would be sent out of New York City to nearby counties. His administration said the move was meant to make room for a swell of migrants expected to come to the city after Title 42, a COVID-era immigration ruling that limited access at the U.S. border, expires Thursday.
