SCIENTIST RICHARD DAWKINS REJECTS WOKE CALLS TO PURGE TERMS MALE, FEMALE

Scientist Richard Dawkins rejects woke calls to purge terms 'male,' 'female': Only response is 'ridicule'--Story by Alexander Hall • 10h ago

Evolutionary biologist and famed atheist author Richard Dawkins blasted woke culture demanding reform within the scientific community.

"On Tuesday, academics working in ecology and evolutionary biology called for the avoidance of words such as male, female, man, woman, mother, father, alien, invasive, exotic and race," The U.K.-based Telegraph reported. "Instead, they encouraged the use of terms such as ‘sperm-producing’ or ‘egg producing’ or ‘XY/XX individual’ to avoid ‘emphasizing hetero-normative views.'"

Dawkins, who rose to fame due to books such as "The Selfish Gene" and "The God Delusion" derided such demands.

"The only possible response is contemptuous ridicule," he told The Telegraph. "I shall continue to use every one of the prohibited words. I am a professional user of the English language. It is my native language." MORE AT Scientist Richard Dawkins rejects woke calls to purge terms 'male,' 'female': Only response is 'ridicule' (msn.com)

EDUCATION ISSUES; TO INCREASE EQUITY, SCHOOL DISTRICTS ELIMINATE HONORS CLASSES

To Increase Equity, School Districts Eliminate Honors Classes
Supporters say uniform classes create rigor for all students but critics say cuts hurt faster learners

CULVER CITY, Calif.—A group of parents stepped to the lectern Tuesday night at a school board meeting in this middle-class, Los Angeles-area city to push back against a racial-equity initiative. The high school, they argued, should reinstate honors English classes that were eliminated because they didn’t enroll enough Black and Latino students.

The district earlier this school year replaced the honors classes at Culver City High School with uniform courses that officials say will ensure students of all races receive an equal, rigorous education. MORE AT To Increase Equity, School Districts Eliminate Honors Classes - WSJ

THE DUCK POND CIRCA 1914

THE DUCK POND, circa 1914----CLICK ON THE IMAGE BELOW OURTESY OF THE CROTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY FB PAGE:

The Duck Pond dates back to at least the 19th-century, when the Van Cortlandt family still owned the farm that later became the Harmon development. On the 1903 survey of the village it’s called the Ice Pond, because ice would be harvested there in the winter before the days of refrigeration. When Harmon purchased the land he named the pond Spring Lake, as shown on this circa 1914 postcard. The house in the trees is at the end of Penfield. The duck pond was originally much larger than it is today. Part of it was filled in to make the area where the baseball field and playground are today, part was cut off when Riverside Avenue was moved east to make room for the highway.

Lawler, Local Officials Ramp Up Opposition to Hochul’s Housing Plan
February 13, 2023 Martin Wilbur Mount Pleasant, Westchester County

Congressman Mike Lawler (R-Pearl River) blasted Gov. Kathy Hochul for preparing to press forward with her proposed housing plan that he and other officials have charged would irreparably damage many of the region’s communities.

Joined by state and local elected officials from Westchester and Rockland counties at a Friday press conference at the Hawthorne Metro-North station, Lawler lambasted the governor, particularly for the transited-oriented development segment of her New York Housing Compact along with the proposed MTA payroll tax hike and proposing the largest spending plan in state history at $227 billion.

Under the current proposal, land within a half-mile radius of every MTA-operated train station in the region would be rezoned to allow for multifamily housing.

The congressman said it would not only trample on home rule but there isn’t the infrastructure, such as water and sewer, in many communities to sustain that level of development. Schools could also be overrun. Lawler estimated that there could be more than 10,000 new housing units in the 17th Congressional District alone.

‘It’s not that we’re against housing. We all recognize the need for it,” Lawler said. “But we respect the rule of law. We respect the fact that local control of zoning is a bedrock principle in the state of New York. It is a constitutional right and the governor is proposing to eliminate it. It’s simply unconscionable.” More at Lawler, Local Officials Ramp Up Opposition to Hochul’s Housing Plan | The Examiner News

IN THE NEWS- Florida surgeon general, again questioning COVID vaccines, sends letter to CDC, FDA

Joseph Ladapo cited the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, which anyone can report to.

Florida’s top health official sent a letter this week to the heads of the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warning that mRNA COVID-19 vaccines could be dangerous.

It’s the latest instance of Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo, who runs the Florida Department of Health, questioning the safety of the vaccines. In the letter, he cites an increase in the number of reports from Florida submitted to the federal government’s Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, or VAERS, as evidence of a problem with the shots.  TAMPA BAY TIMES---READ MORE HERE.

THE GOTHAMIST--DUMPING 1M GALLONS OF RADIOACTIVE WATER IN HUDSON IS "BEST OPTION" PER INDIAN POINT PLANT OWNER

Dumping 1M gallons of radioactive water in Hudson is ‘best option,’ per Indian Point nuclear plant owner

The owner of the defunct Indian Point nuclear facility says it’s planning to dump about 1 million gallons of radioactive water into the Hudson River. The move, which the company describes as the “best option” for the waste, could happen as early as August.

A Feb. 2 meeting of the Indian Point Decommissioning Oversight Board heated up when the plant’s owner Holtec International disclosed the plan as part of its lengthy closure process. The contaminated water could just naturally — and safely — decay in storage onsite. Holtec Reaches Milestone During Unit 2 Decommissioning
By Rich Burroni

The sale of Indian Point in May 2021 to Holtec International began a 12-15 year timeline to decommission the facility. This process involves many different critical paths: spent fuel management, site characterization, gapping and abandoning systems, reactor vessel segmentation, and demolition.

The first critical path we embarked upon was to safely remove, and store, all of Unit 2’s spent fuel. We began loading the 1st cask, of 28 total, in August of 2022. This involved safely loading 896 spent fuel assemblies into multi-purpose canisters, under water in the spent fuel pool, then transferring those canisters into HI-STORM 100 overpacks. These overpacks, made of steel and concrete, weigh 360,000 each and provide safe, storage of our fuel.  MORE AT Holtec Reaches Milestone During Unit 2 Decommissioning – River Journal Online – News for Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow, Irvington, Ossining, Briarcliff Manor, Croton-on-Hudson, Cortlandt and Peekskill
