EVERGREEN COURT FIRE, THE PLEA DEAL, AND MORE---LOHUD

ROCKLAND--At Jared Lloyd's Spring Valley firehouse, a plea deal in his death hits hard--Peter D. Kramer and Steve Lieberman--Rockland/Westchester Journal News

The guys at Spring Valley's Columbian Fire Engine Co. No. 1 have been through a long 2 1/2 years.

And now a long week.

Two-and-a-half years since they'd buried one of their own, Jared Lloyd, their sports-loving, Mets-fan, firefighter brother, whose "Mayday" call at the Evergreen Court fire in March 2021 was just in time to save his best friend, Eric Cich, but too late to save 35-year-old Jared. He left behind two young sons and a grieving Rockland fire community.

Those 2 1/2 years led, eventually and inevitably it seems, to this long week. A week of answering too many calls and texts from incredulous friends and fellow firefighters.

No jail time? Probation? Just $600 in court fees?

The guys learned late last week that the men whose actions had led to the fire — rabbis Nathaniel Sommer and his son, Aaron — had struck a plea bargain with Rockland District Attorney Thomas Walsh. MORE AT Jared Lloyd's Spring Valley firehouse see plea in death as a betrayal (lohud.com)

THE INDOCTRINATION OF THE AMERICAN MIND, ERIC KAUFMANN

New research shows that the ideological transformation of our schools is widespread—and should concern anyone who cares about open inquiry and free speech.

By Eric Kaufmann

June 22, 2023

If you read The Free Press, you know that over the last decade, an illiberal ideology that goes by various names—Critical Race Theory; Critical Social Justice—has transformed key institutions of American life. It is remaking the law, Hollywood, medicine, higher education, psychology, and more.

No area, however, is more important than our schools, which shape the minds of future citizens. And across the country, teachers are now engaged in the wholesale indoctrination of their pupils.

The Evanston–Skokie School District teaches K–3 students to “break the binary” of gender. Seattle Public Schools tell teachers that the education system is guilty of “spirit murder” against black children, while a Cupertino, California elementary school forces third graders to deconstruct their racial and sexual identities and rank themselves according to their “power and privilege.” In Portland, K–5 students are taught to subvert the sexuality of “white colonizers” and explore the “infinite gender spectrum.” And thousands of similar examples, perhaps in your own community.  MORE AT The Indoctrination of the American Mind | The Free Press (thefp.com)

FAUCI---THE LATEST.....

By BRITTANY BERNSTEIN--June 22, 2023 5:20 PM

Dr. Anthony Fauci said Thursday he worries about the future of the U.S. because of the rising “normalization of untruths.”

The former White House chief medical advisor’s comments came in response to a question at the Hill’s Future of Health Care Summit about whether he is worried about the country heading into the 2024 election.

“I worry about the country a lot because what we’re seeing — and I think anybody who just takes a deep breath and looks at what’s going on — that we are in an arena, an era, of what I call the normalization of untruths,” Fauci said.

“There are so many misrepresentations and distortions of reality and conspiracy theory, that it almost becomes normalized,” he added. “We should not accept that as the new normal because when facts are no longer accepted as facts, when distortions occur and when reality is distorted, that will undermine the foundations of the social order and of our democracy. And history has shown us that.”

But Fauci, who left government work at the end of last year, was a noted distributor of untruths throughout the pandemic.....more at Fauci Worried about Future of U.S., ‘Normalization of Untruths’ | National Review
