EDUCATION ISSUES IN THE NEWS--FOX LANE SOFTBALL PARENTS CONTIUE TO PRESS FOR ATHLETIC GENDER EQUITY

Fox Lane Softball Parents Continue to Press for Athletic Gender Equity--Martin Wilbur

A group of Fox Lane girls’ softball parents submitted a letter to Bedford school officials on Friday, detailing the steps they believe the district should take in order to deliver gender equity.

In the letter, parents claim the district is in violation of Title IX, a federal law that bans gender discrimination in education programs or activities, including scholastic athletics that receive federal funding.

The district has already prepared a bond plan that includes investing about $880,000 toward upgrading the current dirt softball field, which is tucked away behind the middle school.

But the parents believe the current location of the field, and the level of investment for softball upgrades, fall short of what’s needed to elevate the softball program to achieve support that is on par with boys’ baseball, or generally what should be afforded to the female student-athletes.  MORE AT Fox Lane Softball Parents Continue to Press for Athletic Gender Equity | The Examiner News

He said his "dream job is to continue to be able to help people."

"I'm really excited about that. It's a six-year term," he said. "It doesn't keep me from doing other things, including from running for office, which I know is on a lot of people's minds."

The appointment came from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. MORE FROM NEWS 12 AT EXCLUSIVE: Rep. Mondaire Jones to be appointed to US Commission on Civil Rights (news12.com)

The latest document drop from Twitter is reported by Michael Shellenberger. I shouldn’t have to do this: real journalists, if there were any, should do it. Yes, I know there’s a Twitter app that will collect tweet-burts like this, but I’m not on Twitter yet and won’t be until I’m certain where this wheel-of-chaos will stop.

As ought to be apparent by now, there are three separate but interlocking ethics matters here. READ THE REST FROM ETHICS ALARMS HERE.

Westchester DA clears New Rochelle mayor of criminal wrongdoing in ethics probe--Asher Stockler--Rockland/Westchester Journal News

Westchester District Attorney Mimi Rocah announced Monday that her office would not bring criminal charges against New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson over alleged ethics violations, calling the evidence needed to support such charges "insufficient."

“The sole purpose of our review was to determine if it was appropriate to bring criminal charges against the Mayor for this conduct, and we have concluded that there is legally insufficient evidence to support criminal charges," Rocah's office said in a statement. "Our review is now concluded.”

The New Rochelle Board of Ethics concluded this summer that Bramson, a Democrat, had violated the city's charter in his bid to become the commissioner of development. However, the board was divided on whether Bramson's criticism of a new personnel appointment was similarly inappropriate. North Carolina Public School Officials ‘Unlawfully’ Fired Professor For Opposing ‘Racially Divisive Ideology,’ Lawsuit Alleges--Story by Alexa Schwerha • Yesterday 6:24 PM

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction “unlawfully” fired Dr. David Phillips from its Governor’s School in 2021 for opposing “racially divisive ideology,” a lawsuit filed by the legal group Alliance Defending Freedom, who represents Phillips, alleged Monday.

The Governor’s School, a publicly funded summer program for advanced high school students, fired Phillips after he delivered “three optional seminars” which opposed “critical theory” and “the increasing bias and lack of viewpoint diversity in higher education,” ADF said in a press release. After the lectures, “a group of students and staff members reacted with open hostility, referencing race, gender, sexual orientation, and religion in their comments and questions,” ADF claimed.
