FOR OUR FAITH-BASED READERS---UNITED METHODIST CHURCH ANNOUNCES NEW DATE FOR GENERAL CONFERENCE THAT WILL TACKLE LGBT DEBATE

UMC announces new date for General Conference that will tackle LGBT debate

Curated for you byCP Editors

Good afternoon! It's Monday, November 7, and today's headlines include the United Methodist Church setting a date for its next General Conference, a group of medical associations that have penned a letter urging child advocates in the medical community to embrace science rather than ideology, and an interview with "The Chosen" actress Elizabeth Tabish.

The United Methodist Church has announced that its General Conference will be held on April 23–May 3, 2024, at the Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte, N.C. The conference was previously postponed multiple times in part over concerns about COVID-19. The event will be co-hosted by the Western North Carolina Conference and the North Carolina Annual Conference, Commission Chair Kim Simpson announced. The UMC was originally set to hold its next General Conference in May 2020, with the denomination’s contentious debate over LGBT issues being a key agenda item for the gathering. For the past several years, theological progressives have actively resisted the official UMC policy prohibiting the ordination of noncelibate homosexuals and the ban on blessing same-sex unions. The legislative gathering was going to entertain measures aimed at allowing theological conservatives to form their own denomination and graciously leave the UMC.

The COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns required the denomination to postpone the event, which was initially rescheduled for autumn of 2021. Continue reading.

CORINNE CLARK, WE DON'T WANT PANDEMIC AMNESTY, WE WANT A RECKONING

The piece was written by Dr. Emily Oster, who was, to her credit, one of the only liberal-leaning voices of reason during the pandemic. Amid the COVID madness, Oster argued that schools should be open. She often spoke of the virus's low risk for children. And when liberals freaked out about masks, she fought back with stats that proved mask mandates for children were statistically unwarranted and morally unacceptable.

Unfortunately, that reasonable voice was lacking from her latest piece, which suggested those who pushed the policies that separated families and stunted the health and mental wellness of American children should be forgiven. People like Dr. Anthony Fauci, who suggested children were in danger when conservative leaders like Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis reopened their states’ schools, should be given a pass because we were “living in darkness” at the time, she wrote. There was too much we didn’t know about COVID, and the public ought to accept that and just move on, according to Oster.

It's not hard to see why a liberal publication like the Atlantic would publish such an argument right now.

Republicans are set to win the House and possibly take the Senate during this week’s midterm elections. READ MORE HERE.

NEW FROM EFSP: QUADROPHENIA

New from our friends at European Film Star Postcards

Quadrophenia (1979)

Quadrophenia (Franc Roddam, 1979) is a British musical film based on the concept album 'Quadrophenia' (1973) by British rock band The Who. The film is a reflection of proto-punk, pre-Thatcher Britain and revolves around Jimmy (Phil Daniels), a member of the Mods, a 1960s youth gang at odds with the Rockers. It is now seen as a cult film with a great soundtrack and many familiar faces, including Ray Winstone, Timothy Spall, Leslie Ash, Toyah Wilcox and Sting. I was a huge fan when the film premiered and bought the lobby cards I used for this post, in a film shop near London's Oxford Street in 1980.  More at European Film Star Postcards: Quadrophenia (1979)

IN THE NEWS: KAROL MARKOWICZ, OPINION, MORE ABOUT THAT PANDEMIC "AMNESTY"............

This Election Day, make every Democrat who harmed our kids’ education pay

By Karol Markowicz

As the pandemic moves further into our rearview mirror, there are some voices that want everyone to simply move on.

We will. But not quite yet.

Election Day Tuesday is the first real opportunity to hold accountable all the people who caused so much damage to everyone, all across society — but to children in particular.

Writing in The Atlantic, Emily Oster called for “pandemic amnesty,” arguing, “Reasonable people — people who cared about children and teachers — advocated on both sides of the reopening debate.”

This is simply not true. Those opposed to reopening schools were neither reasonable, as no amount of actual evidence could persuade them that schools.......READ MORE AT This Election Day, make every Democrat who harmed our kids' education pay (nypost.com)
