Public Provides First Input for Route 9A Corridor Improvements

Enhancing safety and alleviating flooding and noise were the primary concerns of community members during a state Department of Transportation (DOT) public workshop last week on improving a key stretch of Route 9A.

The well-attended June 21 workshop at Todd Elementary School in Briarcliff Manor saw roughly 80 people from the surrounding communities of Ossining, Briarcliff and Mount Pleasant brainstorm in small groups to help the DOT pare down the list challenges facing nearby residents and motorists who use the roadway.  MORE AT Public Provides First Input for Route 9A Corridor Improvements | The Examiner News

JUDITH ANDERSON HAS PASSED AWAY

Judith Anderson has passed away. A well known village resident and fixture---Tom Faranda has some photos and more on his blog: Tom Faranda's Folly: Judy Anderson (typepad.com)

OBITUARY AND SERVICE ARRANGEMENTS;

Judith (Judy) Ann Anderson of Croton-on-Hudson, NY passed away peacefully at home on June 26, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Her faith kept her strong throughout a six-year fight with breast cancer.

Judy was born on August 5, 1947, in Middle Village, Queens, NY to Anthony and Margaret (Lee) DiGiacinto. She graduated with honors from Dominican Commercial High School in 1964 and took her first job with William J. Burns International Detective Agency in Manhattan at age sixteen. She later relocated to Westchester with Burns when the company moved to Briarcliff Manor, NY. There, she met and eventually married Robert B. Anderson. While working and raising their family, Judy and Bob built their own house in Croton. They celebrated 50 years of marriage on October 29, 2022.

Throughout her life, Judy worked tirelessly in service of respecting, celebrating, and championing the human dignity of life. She joined with Father Daniel Egan of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement at Graymoor in Garrison, NY to support his successful program in drug addiction counseling and rehabilitation programs throughout New York State. She spent many weekends visiting with and helping disadvantaged residents at St. Francis Farm in Lacona, NY, and New Hope Manor, Barryville, NY. Judy steadfastly dedicated over twenty years to the Pro-Life movement as the co-director of the Hudson Valley Coalition for Life and the co-editor of its newsletter LifeNet, co-organizer of Women’s Equality Day Reformed, and participant in the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C. A devout Catholic, she faithfully served her community through Holy Name of Mary Church as a Eucharistic Minister, a Religious Education teacher, a member of both the Respect Life Society and the Parish Council, and Chaplain for the Croton Volunteer Fire Department.

Judy had a genuine zest for life. From exploring the Hudson Valley to traveling throughout the U.S., the Caribbean, Central America, and Europe, to attending cultural events, she loved experiencing everything the world had to offer. She often remarked how in awe she was of all its beauty and people’s talents. Throughout these adventures, her spirit was always warm and welcoming. That spirit showed the brightest whenever she sat and swapped stories with friends and family – one of her favorite things to do. Her wit and New Yorker sense of humor always made people laugh.

As a lifelong Mets fan, Judy loved catching a game, whether in person or on TV, rain or shine, win or lose. Growing up, Shea Stadium was almost like a second home, and she often shared fond memories of being there – like the time she spent nearly 10 hours sitting through baseball’s longest doubleheader or attending The Beatles’ famous 1965 concert. In her downtime, Judy loved to read, watch classic movies (and share her encyclopedic knowledge of the who’s who of Hollywood), and cook for loved ones.

Judy will be lifted into heaven graciously by the open arms of God for the loving life she lived. She was predeceased by her and Bob’s angel baby Robert Anthony, father Anthony, mother Margaret, and brother Anthony. She is survived by her husband Robert; their four children, Lee (Tony), Michael (Lindsay), Debra (Hugh), and Megan (Mike); five grandchildren Mason, Logan, Livia, Saoirse, and Levon; her sisters Dolores and Jeanne (Mark), and her brother Thomas (MaryGrace); close extended family; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

The visitation will be held on Friday, June 30 from 2 pm - 4 pm and 7 pm - 9 pm at Holy Name of Mary Church, 110 Grand Street, Croton-on-Hudson, NY 10520. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 1 at 10 am at Holy Name of Mary Church. Interment will follow at Bethel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Judy’s memory to the following organizations she supported: Birthright of Peekskill birthrightofpeekskill.org; Good Counsel Homes goodcounselhomes.org; and New Hope Manor newhopemanor.org.
