BELATED VALENTINE'S DAY 2024, CROTON SENIORS

Welcome to The New Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

Photos and content from Bob Anderson, all rights reserved:  About 40 Croton Seniors celebrated a belated Valentines Day on Friday the 23rd in the community room.  It was time for desserts only, some store bought and many home made.  Vice president Janet Meyer shared some facts and trivia about Valentines Day and the party concluded with a drawing of 50/50 contest winners.  No one went home hungry,  and the group enjoyed chatting and sharing stories.

The Croton Seniors are always happy to have new members join and enjoy club activities. Contact the recreation department at 914-271-3006 or club president Bob Anderson 914-271-3168 for more information. The seniors meet at the municipal building at 11 a.m. Fridays and at Senasqua Park on the last Friday of the month during the summer.

FROM THE MAILBOX

Here at the blog, we get a lot of requests for information and quite often, previous postings from the both the old and the new Everything Croton, etc.  We try to answer them if enough details are provided but not every request is so easy and the one below is at least a few months old.  A reader was looking for a certain article, but she could not remember the source.  As it turns out, one of our readers found it purely by accident--and we believe this is the one.  It was posted on NPR and is from 2005.  If not, please advise.

A Distinct Human Organism
NOVEMBER 22, 200512:00 AM ET--NPR By Robert P. George

The key question in the debate over stem cell research that involves the destruction of human embryos is: When does the life of a human being begin? To answer this question is to decide whether human embryos are, in fact, human beings and, as such, possessors of inherent human dignity.

Where do we go to find the answer? Not, in my opinion, to the Bible, Talmud or other religious writings, even if we regard these texts as sources of moral wisdom and even divine revelation. Nor should we be satisfied to consult our "moral intuitions."

Rather, the answer is to be found in the works of modern human embryology and developmental biology. In these texts, we find little or nothing in the way of scientific uncertainty: "…human development begins at fertilization…" write embryologists Keith Moore and T.V. N. Persaud.....
