IN THE NEWS: COLUMBIA CRACKS DOWN--AT LEAST A HUNDRED PROTESTERS BUSTED
At least 100 protesters were cuffed and hauled away on Thursday afternoon when NYPD cops in riot gear swarmed the campus after the president made the bombshell decision to clear a large anti-Israel protest encampment.
After the busts, other Columbia protesters moved to block the fleet of NYPD corrections buses transporting the suspects away from the scene.
Dozens of cops in body armor and face shields descended on the Morningside Heights campus shortly after 1 p.m. and surrounded the encampment of a few dozen tents, which went up on Wednesday morning. IN THE NEWS---COLUMBIA U PREZ SAYS SHE'D "PREFER" NOT TO HEAR ANTISEMTISM LIKE "FROM THE RIVER TO THE SEA"--BUT ISN'T GOING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT

Columbia University president Minouche Shafik refused to tell lawmakers Wednesday whether “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” counts as an antisemitic phrase — instead only calling it “hurtful” and adding that she would “prefer” not to hear it around the Ivy League campus.
Shafik — appearing alongside Columbia Law dean emeritus David Schizer and two members of the Morningside Heights university’s board of trustees, Claire Shipman and David Greenwald — faced an onslaught of questions from members of the House Education and Workforce Committee about her handling of anti-Jew demonstrations and violence since the Hamas terror group’s Oct. 7 attack against Israel.
The president defended her work by citing a letter sent to students outlining appropriate language to use as well as the creation of specific places for protests to take place in order to to protect students from having to hear the “chants.” MORE AT Columbia University prez won't say if 'hurtful' slogan 'from the river to the sea' is antisemitic (nypost.com)
