After universities both-sides the mass slaughter of Jews, Bill Ackman, Jon Huntsman, and others are saying ‘the buck stops here.’

Since the beginning of The Free Press, we have paid particular attention to the story of institutional capture—specifically, to the story of how America’s great institutions of higher education, charged with educating the country’s future leaders, have been taken hostage by an illiberal ideology that has replaced the pursuit of truth with moral confusion and knee-jerk social justice activism.

In the days since Hamas began its war on Israel, we have seen that ideology in full blossom as students have cheered for terrorists on the quad and administrators have tried, for the first time, to stay out of it.

The reaction has alarmed university donors. One of them is Marc Rowan, who sits on the Wharton School’s board of overseers. He made news in our pages earlier this week when he announced he was closing his checkbook—and urged other people of conscience to do the same. Some, as you will read below, have followed suit.

The Village of Croton-on-Hudson Police Advisory Committee and Croton Police Department will host a Town Hall for the community on Tuesday, October 17th, 2023 at 6:00 PM.

The Town Hall is an opportunity for residents to learn about the results of the 2023 Community Survey on Public Safety and Law Enforcement, a report from the Police Advisory Committee, as well as a presentation from the Croton Police Department. Questions and input from residents will be welcomed at the end of the meeting. The meeting will be held in the Georgianna Grant Meeting Room of the Municipal Building at 1 Van Wyck Street. Residents are invited to attend in person, or you can view the Town Hall meeting on Cable Channel 78, as well as on the Village website live stream.

It seemed like just another fall evening two Friday nights ago, at 11:30 p.m., when the message flashed on Alison Bender Kellner’s WhatsApp, dispelling any chance of a peaceful night’s sleep.

The notification was from the Greenburgh resident’s daughter, a young Israeli living far from home, and the words carried a weight that would send any loving mother’s heart racing.

“She said, ‘I just want to let you know that we were just down in the bomb shelter because a siren went off and I wanted you to hear it from me before you saw it on the news,’” the Yorktown native told me in an interview last week.

Fortunately, her daughter, who joined the Israeli military eight years ago after graduating high school from Solomon Schechter (now the Leffell School) in White Plains, was not in the southern region attacked by the heinous Hamas terrorism.
