Welcome to The New Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.THE CROTON CHRONICLE---TRAIN IDLING NOISES: CROWD SOURCED INQUIRY
As many here know, the issue of nighttime noise from idling locomotives in the Croton-Harmon rail yard has been an issue for many years. It may have become less of an issue for Crotonites when the Replacement Yard was built, although I have talked to a number of people who are still bothered by it.
What may be less well known is that some of the Ossining-based activists against the noise, who have been more affected by it since the move of the yard, have filed a lawsuit against Metro North in state court and asked for an injunction against idling the trains for long periods of time. Metro North’s attempts to dismiss the case have not so far been successful, and the motion for an injunction is pending. So, on behalf of the Croton Chronicle, we are very interested in hearing from people in Croton who hear the noise at night and are bothered by it. You are welcome to comment here, but given the sensitivities of the issue you might prefer to contact us privately to describe your experiences in as much detail as you wish to.
