RIVER JOURNAL--TOWN OF CORTLANT RALLY TO SAVE THE RIVER

Welcome to The New Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

RIVER JOURNAL --The Town of Cortlandt will be holding a large rally against Holtec International’s plan to discharge over one million gallons of radioactive wastewater into the Hudson River. The rally will be held on Saturday, May 6th at 2PM at The Cortlandt Waterfront Park in Verplanck located at 77 Riverview Avenue.

Holtec International plans to discharge this radioactive water into the Hudson River as part of its decommissioning process of Indian Point Energy Center. Holtec’s argument is that the wastewater contains a low level of radiation, that Indian Point has been discharging wastewater continuously since the plant opened, and that there are no other viable options. The Town of Cortlandt, as well as other municipalities and agencies, strongly object to this blatant abuse of one of our most precious natural features. WESTCHESTER LEGISLATORS TRY TO AX LEADER BUT ARE STOPPED BY HER SUIT

A revolt against the head of the Westchester County Board of Legislators careened into a court fight on Wednesday as lawmakers arranged to oust their chairwoman and she sued to stop them.

The 17-member board scheduled a special meeting at 4 p.m. to remove Catherine Borgia as a repudiation of her handling of reports that an aide had solicited sex from a minor in a sting operation. That move was a swift reaction to her refusing to step aside on Monday after fellow Democrats publicly asked her to do so.

But Borgia filed a lawsuit at noon to challenge their authority to remove her. When the board meeting finally began at 5 p.m., it lasted only four minutes. Nancy Barr, the vice-chairwoman who presided in Borgia's absence, read a statement saying the judge hearing Borgia's challenge had prohibited any vote until he had made an initial ruling.

Legislators Vote to Remove Borgia as Chair Over Alleged Child Predator Inaction

In an unprecedented move, the Westchester County Board of Legislators voted to remove Catherine Borgia as Chair of that body. This removal was spurred after Borgia’s recent rejection of a call for her resignation after revelations that her employee, Anand Singh, had potentially committed child sex crimes and she only took disciplinary action after the public release of a Youtube video.

In December 2022, an amateur group called OBL Global commenced an undercover sting operation that seems to have caught Anand Singh soliciting sex from a presumed 14 year-old girl. Singh was a former Yonkers City Hall staffer and was a Westchester BOL legislative aide at the time of the incident. Days after, a viewer of the OBL operation reported Singh’s actions to two sitting legislators. Legislators Smith and Boykin were notified because they led the committees to which Singh was assigned.

Both Smith and Boykin transmitted this information to the BOL clerk for their records. Smith also notified Chairwoman Catherine Borgia. As Chair, staffers like Singh report directly to her office. Borgia released a statement that she had then directed the matter to the Department of Public Safety. However, our reporting indicates that Commissioner of that department, Terrance Raynor, advised Borgia to fire Anand Singh. But, Borgia only terminated Singh after the public release of a full Youtube video describing Singh’s actions on April 13th.

Calls for Resignation

Calls for Borgia’s resignation trickled in, culminating in a broader statement statement from the BOL on April 24th. In a quote given to Black Westchester Magazine, Borgia rejected the suggestion to step-down, and called this demand part of a “witch hunt.” But now, legislators are no longer asking.

Westchester County legislators are set to remove Catherine Borgia as chairwoman at a special meeting Wednesday for her handling of reports that an aide had solicited sex from a minor in a sting operation.

The 4 p.m. vote is a swift reaction to Borgia refusing to step aside Monday after fellow Democrats on the Board of Legislators asked her to do so. All 16 other lawmakers — 14 Democrats, one Republican and a Conservative Party member — signed the resolution to oust her.

The resolution faults Borgia for failing to act after learning that two legislators had gotten emails in December saying that legislative aide Anand Singh solicited sex from a minor. MORE AT Westchester legislators to axe leader for handling of aide allegations (lohud.com)

THE BIG FAIL, SPIKE HAMPSON

Vaccines have not curbed death rates from Covid in countries around the world. There is no clear evidence that they have saved lives and they have probably done more to precipitate deaths than to avert them.

This is a conclusion reached after completing a straightforward statistical study that compares the death rate from Covid to the level of vaccination within each of the individual countries.

If vaccinations were doing what they were promised to do, then countries in which higher proportions of the population became vaccinated would be countries in which relatively fewer people died from the virus. But there is no evidence that such a thing happened.

A problem with studying this issue is that the pandemic worked its way through the global population in different regions at different times and did so at different rates of speed. We don’t know whether different Covid death rates were a consequence of vaccines or something else.  READ MORE AT The Big Fail ⋆ Brownstone Institute

EDUCATION ISSUES, EQUITY: VERMONT SCHOOL DISTRICT REMOVES MALE, FEMALE FROM REPRODUCTIVE LESSONS

Vermont school district removes 'male,' 'female' from reproductive system lessons
Story by Kristine Parks • 53m ago

A Vermont elementary school is reportedly removing "male" and "female" language from its fifth grade science lessons covering the human body, puberty and reproduction. In a letter sent home to parents at Founders Memorial School on April 20, the principal announced "gender-inclusive language" would now be used in the science and health unit.  Teachers would now only use "gender-inclusive language" in these lessons in order to "align our curriculum with our equity policy," school principal Sara Jablonski wrote in a letter shared on social media.

Terms like "male" and "boy" would be replaced with "person who produces sperm." Likewise, "female" and "girl" would be replaced with a "person who produces eggs." MORE AT Vermont school district removes 'male,' 'female' from reproductive system lessons (msn.com)

FAUCI SAYS DON'T BLAME HIM FOR COVID LOCKDOWNS AND SCHOOL CLOSURES

Anthony Fauci Says Don't Blame Him for COVID Lockdowns and School Closures--Fauci says public officials should have listened to other advisers and made better decisions. That's true! It's also incredibly frustrating.

ERIC BOEHM |

If you're looking for someone to blame for the infamous "15 days to slow the spread" that turned into more than a year of shuttered schools, closed businesses, and fraying social connections, Anthony Fauci says don't look at him.

"Show me a school that I shut down and show me a factory that I shut down," says Fauci, the former White House coronavirus czar and now-retired public health official who became the face of both the Trump and Biden administrations' handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, in a lengthy sit-down with The New York Times. "Never. I never did."

The interview is framed by the Times as an inside look at Fauci as he "wrestles with the hard lessons of the pandemic—and the decisions that will define his legacy." But when it comes time to answer the tough questions about who was at fault for America's botched response to COVID-19, the good doctor is happy to pass the buck. The blame is spread around, not only to the CDC and the other public health apparatuses for which Fauci became a convenient (and willing) personification but also to the politicians who followed public health recommendations without any consideration of the costs involved.

California retail head slams Prop 47 for rise in thefts after Target store locks down entire inventory--Story by Stephanie Pagones, Ronny Reyes • Yesterday 6:46 PM

A California business leader blamed the staggering rise in store thefts and attacks on retail employees on the state’s soft-on-crime Prop 47 policy.

Rachel Michelin, president of the California Retailers’ Association (CRA), told The Post that brazen thefts — which has caused one Target location to lock down its entire inventory — have soared over the Safe Neighborhoods and Schools Act.
