MARYLAND SCHOOL SILENT AFTER VIDEO SHOWS STUDENTS INAPPROPRIATELY TOUCHING IN SUSPENDED TRANS TEACHER'S CLASSROOM

Maryland public school is silent after a viral video appears to show students inappropriately touching in the classroom of a teacher who was suspended one month ago, according to parents in the district.  The video appears to show students engaging in sexual acts and someone dressed as a banana in stockings. An Anne Arundel County School District parent told Libs of TikTok that the video took place in transgender teacher Willa Hoard’s classroom. Hoard is the supervisor for the school’s Gender Sexuality Alliance (GSA) club, according to Libs of TikTok. PATCH, EDUCATION IN THE NEWS: SOMERS BOOK ON WHITE PRIVILEGE PULLED FROM CLASSROOM

Welcome to The New Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

As this is a topic now locally, the latest:

Book On White Privilege Pulled From Somers Classroom--District officials said they were unaware the book was being using in a 10th grade classroom until students told their parents about it.LINCOLNDALE, NY — A lesson on racism in a 10th grade class at Somers High School was halted after complaints from parents.  In a class, a teacher was using excerpts from “Me and White Supremacy,” a book by Layla Saad.

The book is described by the author as a journey for readers to understand and journal “their white privilege and participation in white supremacy, so that they can stop (often unconsciously) inflicting damage on black, indigenous and people of color, and in turn, help other white people do better, too.” More at Book On White Privilege Pulled From Somers Classroom | Yorktown, NY Patch

EDUCATION ISSUES: MORE ON THAT PANDEMIC "AMNESTY"

Parents across the country can and should take offense at AFT President Randi Weingarten’s dismissive attempt at self-absolution.

CHRISTOPHER JACOBS

One couldn’t help but notice the ironic timing. One week after the release of results on the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) showed a historically large decline in student test scores during Covid-induced lockdowns, American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten tweeted out approval of an article in The Atlantic calling for “a pandemic amnesty:”

Apart from the obvious quip of whether there’s an amnesty the left will not support, Weingarten represents perhaps the last person who has the right to advance this message. School lockdowns went on for far longer than they needed to, thanks to Weingarten and her union cronies — and America’s children paid the price. Parents across the country can and should take offense at Weingarten’s dismissive attempt at self-absolution.

Public Schools’ Prolonged Shutdowns

Weingarten’s intervention aside, The Atlantic article has more than a nugget of truth in it. At the beginning of the pandemic, we didn’t know a lot about Covid — exactly how and where it was transmitted, how to treat it, and so much else. In such an environment, people obviously would make statements they thought were true, and promote policies they thought beneficial, only to discover that later evidence proved them wrong.

To that end, writer and professor Emily Oster makes a fair point....READ MORE AT
