FEMALE POWERLIFTER SPEAKS OUT AGAINST TRANSGENDER ATHLETES

Female powerlifter speaks out against transgender athletes----Story by Reice Shipley •3h

Anne Andres, a powerlifter that was born a male and now identifies as a female, set a women’s national record in Canada on Sunday. And fellow powerlifter April Hutchinson discussed the situation with Piers Morgan on Monday.

Hutchinson, a member of the Canadian Powerlifting Union for four years, detailed that she believes that Andres’ victory on Sunday goes to show that there are biological differences between athletes born male and athletes born female.

“Anne (Andres) actually just broke the national record for all the master records yesterday. He also holds the second highest deadlift in our powerlifting federation history of all ages. He is a 40-year-old 240 pound man. It has been very disheartening. MORE AT Female powerlifter speaks out against transgender athletes (msn.com)

JOHN DICKSON CARR, THE CROTON CONNECTION

Welcome to The New Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton -- our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship -- in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

It's always exciting to discover that one of your favorite writers---the prolific John Dickson Carr---lived in Croton, specifically at 71 Mt. Ary Road in the 30's.  (Click on the image.)

For those who don't know, Carr was an American author of detective stories, who also published using the pseudonyms Carter Dickson, Carr Dickson, and Roger Fairbairn.

He lived in England for a number of years, and is often grouped among "British-style" mystery writers. Most (though not all) of his novels had English settings, especially country villages and estates, and English characters. His two best-known fictional detectives (Dr. Gideon Fell and Sir Henry Merrivale) were both English.

Carr is generally regarded as one of the greatest writers of so-called "Golden Age" mysteries; complex, plot-driven stories in which the puzzle is paramount.  READ MORE AT John Dickson Carr - Wikipedia

Chris McKenna--New York State Team

Housing shortage? You wouldn't know it from the raised skyline in downtown New Rochelle, where a trio of 28-story apartment towers built by a single developer has risen in the last few years.

They are just part of the recent growth. The booming Westchester County city approved nearly 4,000 new homes in all over the last 10 years, the second highest total of any municipality in the state outside New York City.

Similar bursts happened around the state in those years, scattered in far-flung corners. Rochester issued nearly 2,800 home-building permits from 2013 to 2022. Ithaca wrote almost 2,200. The densely populated village of Kiryas Joel in Orange County approved a whopping 3,500. MORE AT Where is NY building housing? Search database for town, city data (lohud.com)

WHY ELECTRIC VEHICLE BATTERIES HAVE SHORTER LIFESPANS IN COLD WEATHER

There is a reason electric vehicle batteries, such as the ones in Tesla vehicles, have shorter lifespans during chilly weather, and it comes from electricity being their sole source of power. Electric vehicle batteries, in addition to powering the vehicle, also have to heat the cabin of said vehicle, draining the battery's power more quickly.  MORE AT Here's why electric vehicle batteries have shorter lifespans in cold weather | Washington Examiner

First up, another one of those kitschy big-eyed Margaret Keane illustrations that were so popular in the 60's and 70's--this one adorning yet another accent lamp--you can see this other design here

Then check out the 1979 Jim Beam Circus Wagon Decanteur discovered for a dollar a few years back! In mint condition, with the box. A piece of playful 70's kitsch that will go great somewhere at some time--we just haven't found the right "moment"!

The Dancing Merry Chimp is from the 1960s, (Kuramochi Co.), Japan, 11", tin & fabric, battery operated.
