FROM SUPERVISOR BECKER--GOOD NEWS CORTLANDT

Good News Cortlandt: New York State will prohibit Holtec from releasing 1.5 million gallons of radioactive water into the Hudson River!

Today, Governor Hochul announced that she signed legislation, unanimously passed in a bipartisan show of unity, by the State Senate as well as State Assembly, prohibiting the discharge of any radioactive water into rivers and streams. The elected officials of the Town of Cortlandt attended every meeting of the Decommissioning Oversight Board, and from the outset, argued against Holtec releasing toxic water into our beautiful river. On May 6, the Town of Cortlandt held a large rally at the waterfront Park in Verplanck. This event included the participation of four United States Congressman, representing New York City to Albany. In addition, several State Senators (including Peter Harckham), Assembly members (including Dana Levenberg), our County Executive George Latimer, and other officials from Ossining, Peekskill, and other involved communities. We were joined by multiple environmental groups, and the river was crowded with a flotilla of citizens, demanding that the river remain clean.  READ MORE AT

Fulgenzi Calls on Feds to Prevent Placing Migrant Children at JCCA Campus
August 18, 2023---Martin Wilbur

The JCCA has five job postings listed on its website related to a program for unaccompanied migrant children at its Pleasantville campus that would be overseen by the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement.

Mount Pleasant Supervisor Carl Fulgenzi has urged the federal government against placing unaccompanied migrant children at Pleasantville’s JCCA Cottage School after he learned this week of job postings for positions to operate a program for that population.

Fulgenzi said the town has had no communication regarding a program with the federal government’s Department of Health & Human Services’ Office of Refugee Resettlement, which would apparently oversee the program at the JCCA.

He was alerted to the posting for an assistant program director at the Pleasantville campus on the job posting website Indeed by a local resident. According to the listing, the person hired would “provide daily oversight to the operations of the Unaccompanied Children (UC) program. They will serve as a secondary liaison for Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), and other external parties in reference to the UAC Program.”  MORE AT Fulgenzi Calls on Feds to Prevent Placing Migrant Children at JCCA Campus | The Examiner News

WALL STREET JOURNAL--A TRANSGENDER VICTORY FOR PARENTS IN NORTH CAROLINA

A Transgender Victory for Parents in North Carolina© Gerry Broome/Associated Press

North Carolina’s Republican-led legislature overrode Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper’s veto of three bills affecting transgender children on Wednesday. This is a victory for parents, despite what you read elsewhere.

One bill bans North Carolina doctors from helping minors change their sex characteristics, including giving them puberty blockers and hormone therapy. Another bans biological males from competing on women’s and girls’ sports teams in middle school, high school and college. A third bans instruction on “gender identity, sexual activity, or sexuality” in kindergarten through fourth grade, and requires schools to let parents know if their child asked to be called by a different name or pronoun..........Often lost amid the passions unleashed is that these bills involve minors, some as young as kindergarten. Gender identification is contentious, involving competing—and often irreconcilable—views of what is best for children, especially those who are unhappy with their sex or confused about their identity. In this case the real argument is about who gets to make those decisions. There are about 20 other states with similar restrictions for minors.

The consequences are serious, with sometimes irreversible consequences. Prisha Mosley testified that she was hospitalized as a teen for depression following a sexual assault, and started taking testosterone and had a double mastectomy to remove two healthy breasts as part of “gender affirming care.” She is now suing her doctors and therapists, one of whom told her parents: “Would you rather have a dead daughter or a live son?”

Medical and trans activists argue that by denying such care the Republicans are making suicide among transgender youth more likely. But Leor Sapir, a fellow at the Manhattan Institute, notes that systematic reviews of evidence by European health authorities and by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health have found no reliable evidence that gender transition reduces the incidence of suicide or suicidal intent.  MORE AT A Transgender Victory for Parents in North Carolina (msn.com)

Blakeman: Coliseum cannot be used to house asylum seekers---Aug 18, 2023, 5:31amUpdated 30m ago
By: News 12 Staff

Nassau County officials held a news conference on Thursday to stand firm on their word that no migrants will be housed in the county, including at the Coliseum. The announcement comes as asylum seekers start to move in near the Nassau-Queens border.  “Let me make it clear one more time – Nassau County is not a sanctuary county,” said Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman.

Over 100,000 asylum seekers have arrived in New York City since spring 2022. One tent city opened earlier this week in Queens, near the Nassau County border, drawing concern from nearby residents.  MORE AT Blakeman: Coliseum cannot be used to house asylum seekers (news12.com)
