Welcome to The New Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

If you are not yet a member of The Croton Historical Society, become one today!  Because an added perk of membership, is the quarterly newsletter: THE CROTON HISTORIAN.

THE WINTER 2022 edition features a cover story on......A SMALL TOWN DOCTOR AT WAR---click on the photo---by Marc Cheshire.  It's all about a 1943 Parade Magazine article--in fact the entire Parade photo essay is dedicated to Croton's own Dr. Brooks and his service to the Croton community.

You'll also read about the late Alice Leighner's Photo Archive, which was recently donated to the historical society, and other tidbits.

ANOTHER MOVIE FOR YOUR BUCKET LIST: THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD (1938) & A GREAT FAMILY FILM TOO

Continuing our series, ANOTHER ONE FOR YOUR MOVIE BUCKET LIST....we were reminded that on this date in 1938 "The Adventures of Robin Hood", directed by Michael Curtiz and William Keighley, and starring Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland premiered. A great family film.

Flynn was never more handsome, de Havilland never prettier, and Rathbone never more menacing.  The storyline depicts the legendary Saxon knight Robin Hood who, in King Richard the Lionheart's absence in the Holy Land during the Crusades, fights back as the outlaw leader of a rebel guerrilla band against Prince John and the Norman lords oppressing the Saxon commoners.  In 1995, the film was deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" by the United States Library of Congress and selected for preservation by the National Film Registry.  YOU CAN SEE THE TRAILER ON YOUTUBE HERE.  FIND IT AT WALMART HERE.   SEE MORE FILMS FOR YOUR BUCKET LIST BY CLICKING HERE.

Frank Sinatra (1915-1998) was an American singer, actor and producer who was one of the most popular and influential musical artists of the 20th century. He is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, having sold more than 150 million records worldwide. The idol of the bobby soxers Francis Albert Sinatra was born to Italian immigrants in Hoboken, New Jersey, in 1915.

Sinatra spent much time at his parents' tavern in Hoboken, working on his homework and occasionally singing a song on top of the player piano for spare change. While he never learned how to read music, Sinatra had an impressive understanding of it, and he worked very hard from a young age to improve his abilities in all aspects of music.
