SOME INTERESTING SUMMER READING, CROTON AND (SOMETIMES) NON-CROTON AUTHORS #3

Welcome to The New Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

SOME INTERESTING SUMMER READING, CROTON & NON-CROTON AUTHORS #3--THERE WILL BE MORE. Click on the images and links:

First up, LONESOME TRAVELER, THE LIFE OF LEE HAYS by Doris Willens.  Hays was a village resident for many years; you can read more about that here.

The book is not a compelling read but is still very much worth your time.  It "chronicles the vagabond life and career of the Arkansas activist-singer, his activities with the musically and politically influential Weavers, and the hard times shared and put to music by the group".  You can find it on AMAZON HERE.

NEXT UP, the very controversial but nevertheless well-written and thoroughly researched book by Abigail Shrier, IRREVERSIBLE DAMAGE, THE TRANSGENDER CRAZE SEDUCING OUR DAUGHTERS.

NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF 2021 BY THE TIMES AND THE SUNDAY TIMES.

And with good reason.  A must-read for any parent raising children these days.

And finally, we highly recommend THE FOLKSINGER'S DAUGHTER BY JEANNIE BRAND---about Croton's Oscar Brand.

You can read more about it--and order the book from Amazon too---at http://bit.ly/2rkr3vL

It is very much worth your time.

Delicious all by themselves or as a topping for a simple tomato salad or on your favorite taco, PICKLED RED ONIONS are a must!

We make several quarts regularly and keep them in the refrigerator all year.  And sometimes add a teaspoon or two of sugar depending on our mood---it's totally optional.  We also prefer to wait at least 24 hours for eating so the flavors truly meld.

Our friends at European Film Star Postcards have a wonderful article on Basil Rathbone, one of our favorites.

There was no one more suited to the role of Sherlock Holmes in your editor's view--and he was suitably menacing in the original ROBIN HOOD.  Read and see more here.

And finally, from TOYS AND STUFF, A REAL TREAT:

CIRCUS TIME, TRAIN TIME: K-Line by Lionel 6-21237 RINGLING BROS. Flat Car with 3 Circus Wagons

While Lionel had circus train sets featuring operating stock cars and gondolas, K-Line was the first to offer a ready-to-run flat car specifically designed to hold wagons and mimicking real world circus flat cars.

When Lionel acquired the tooling and rights to the K-Line name, they continued to offer flat cars but this time under license with the Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus.  SO MANY FAB PHOTOS FOLLOW - READ AND SEE MUCH MORE HERE.
