Residents Remain Unhappy with Cortlandt MOD Projects--EXAMINER NEWS

Residents who live in the neighborhood near New York Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital on Route 202 in Cortlandt had their chance last week to speak out on different alternatives for two projects in the proposed Medical Oriented District (MOD).

A sparse crowd turned out at Linda Puglisi Town Hall Nov. 29 at a special Town Board meeting with representatives for Evergreen Manor and Gyrodyne in attendance.

Evergreen Manor, headed by local developer Val Santucci, took the brunt of the criticism from residents who maintained it was too dense and did not comply with the spirit of the MOD, a new zoning district that the Town Board is considering establishing.

One concept unveiled for three parcels totaling 28 acres for Evergreen Manor was 114 assisted living units, 90 townhouses (75 two-bedroom, 15 three-bedroom), 100 rental apartments (70 two-bedroom, 30 one-bedroom) and 7,000 square feet of retail. Birchwood Lane resident Miriam Weinberger contended town officials were using the assisted living portion of Evergreen’s project “as an excuse” to allow the MOD. Latest ‘Twitter Files’ reveal secret suppression of right-wing commentators By Victor Nava and Bruce Golding===The second installment of Elon Musk’s “Twitter Files” dropped Thursday night and reveals how the social media giant was secretly “blacklisting” conservative tweets and users.

Independent journalist Bari Weiss detailed in a series of posts how Twitter used so-called “shadow banning” to limit the visibility of tweets coming from far-right users.

Conservative talk show host Dan Bongino, Stanford University’s anti-COVID lockdown advocate Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, and right-wing activist Charlie Kirk were among the users targeted for suppression by Twitter, according to Weiss.

The former New York Times and Wall Street Journal writer said that the blacklists were built “in secret” and “without informing users.”

“A new [Twitter Files] investigation reveals that teams of Twitter employees build blacklists, prevent disfavored tweets from trending, and actively limit the visibility of entire accounts or even trending topics — all in secret, without informing users,” Weiss wrote in a tweet Thursday.

She notes that the company strayed from its original mission of giving “everyone the power to create and share ideas and information instantly, without barriers” by developing the methods to suppress specific individuals. Questions must be answered on ex-Twitter lawyer James Baker’s role in censorship scandals By Miranda Devine--December 7, 2022 

Let’s award 3.14159 stars to Elon Musk for firing Twitter’s lawyer, James Baker, Tuesday.

But there are still a lot of questions that need to be answered about the role of Baker, the FBI’s former Russiagate protagonist, in — not one, but two — censorship scandals.

First, having been parachuted into Twitter conveniently five months before the 2020 election as deputy general counsel and vice president, Baker played an instrumental role in the censorship of The Post’s Hunter Biden laptop story in October 2020.

Second, Baker was involved in the potential suppression of material that Musk ordered released from Twitter’s files last Friday to reveal who was involved in killing The Post’s story and thus preventing derogatory material about candidate Joe Biden from being disseminated widely.
