IN CASE YOU MISSED IT-- PUTNAM COUNTY, THE MIGRANT CRISIS, CONFRONTING DISINFORMATION--THIS IS FROM THEIR WEBSITE

AS THIS HAS BEEN A HOT TOPIC LOCALLY....
Confronting Disinformation with Facts & Responsible Decision Making

01 August 2023

No one in local government asked for this national migrant crisis, but tragically, decades of inaction by our federal government amplified by dishonest and underhanded moves by politicians placed it on our doorstep.

In New York, the misinformation began with City officials and their representatives refusing to coordinate with municipalities before bussing homeless individuals into their jurisdictions. On numerous occasions, New York City outright lied about their intentions and actions, as well as their own legal requirements to care for these human beings. But the truth is the misinformation has come from all angles and political persuasions. Look no further than the instance of a group deceiving the nation about homeless Veterans being displaced by New York City’s action in Orange County- proving to be a despicable hoax.

Here in Putnam County, the playbook has been no different for opponents of our actions to prevent a homelessness crisis from unfolding in our community.  READ MORE AT Confronting Disinformation with Facts & Responsible Decision Making - Putnam County, New York (putnamcountyny.com)

EVERGREEN COURT FIRE, LOHUD, AUGUST 2023

SPRING VALLEY − Rockland's NAACP leaders have ripped apart a lenient no-jail plea deal for the two men who admitted causing the 2021 fatal adult home blaze during which a firefighter and resident died.  In a letter to County Court Judge Kevin Russo, and District Attorney Thomas Walsh, the three leaders contend the no-jail deal "does not adequately address the crimes as indicated by the indictment."

They urged Walsh to publicly defend his decision and the judge to reconsider his support for the proposed sentence.

The NAACP letter also raised the specter that historically people of color have not gotten a lenient plea deal as given to the two Monsey rabbis. More at NAACP leaders call DA's plea deal unfair in Evergreen Court fire (lohud.com)

NEW LAW REQUIRES EVERY NY DRIVER IN PRICIER AUTO INSURANCE COVERAGE---HALF WILL GET NO BENEFIT

New law enrolls every NY driver in pricier auto insurance coverage. Half will get no benefit

A state law that took effect Aug. 1 requires every driver to be enrolled in pricier auto insurance, but only married couples can possibly reap a benefit from the new protections.Joshua Bessex/Buffalo News

ALBANY – Because of a new state law, every driver in New York is poised to be automatically enrolled in expanded, more expensive auto insurance coverage.

That includes millions of unmarried motorists who would derive no benefit from the extra coverage, which allows an individual to sue their spouse for damages stemming from negligent driving.

The new law does not differentiate between unmarried and married New Yorkers. MORE AT BUFFAO NEWS 12ft | New law enrolls every NY driver in pricier auto insurance coverage. Half will get no benefit

Westchester repeals abortion clinic buffer law teed up for Supreme Court challenge--Asher Stockler--Rockland/Westchester Journal News

The Westchester County Board of Legislators acted quickly on Monday to gut part of a pro-abortion rights law that is currently being teed up for a challenge before the U.S. Supreme Court.

The board voted on Monday to repeal part of the so-called "bubble zone" law, which was passed in the days following the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, a decision that had grounded federal abortion rights for decades.

The Westchester law prohibits obstructing entry into a reproductive health care facility, including an abortion clinic, creates a 25-foot "no harassment" zone around clinics and barred activists from moving within 8 feet of people entering these facilities in order to counsel them.  MORE AT Abortion clinic bubble zones limited by Westchester amid court battle (lohud.com)

IN THE NEWS---FBI OFFICES COORDINATED ON CATHOLIC TARGETING MEMO; JIM JORDAN

Multiple FBI field offices were involved in drafting a controversial January 2023 internal memo suggesting traditionalist Catholic groups were potential hotbeds of domestic extremism, two Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee alleged Wednesday.

A less redacted version of the memo obtained by the panel last month cited a “liaison contact” at the Portland Field Office as well as information from the from the Los Angeles Field Office, the lawmakers claimed in a letter to FBI director Christopher Wray. IN THE NEWS --- LADY GAGA'S DAD RALLIES NYC NEIGHBORS IN FIGHT TO "MANAGE" UNRULY MIGRANTS AT STRATFORD HOTEL

Lady Gaga’s dad is leading the charge against unruly migrants living near his Upper West Side home and restaurant — griping they’re flooding the ritzy neighborhood with a constant stream of hookers and other bad behavior.

“If it was like this when my girls were growing up, I wouldn’t be living in New York,” said Joe Germanotta, 66, who is compiling a list of local residents’ concerns to take to lawmakers, the NYPD and homeless services in protest.

Germanotta has lived in The Pythian building on West 70th Street for 35 years — it’s where he raised his two daughters, including the “Born This Way” singer. He also opened up a restaurant in the community in 2012.

About six weeks ago, the city quietly and quickly transformed the Stratford Arms Hotel — a residence hall for the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) down the block from Germanotta’s home — into a shelter for hundreds of migrants. RIVER JOURNAL---WESTCHESTER ASSEMBLY MEMBERS URGE GOVERNOR TO SIGN "SAVE THE HUDSON" BILL

Welcome to The New Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

Westchester Assembly Members Urge Governor to Sign “Save the Hudson” Bill

Seven of Westchester’s eight Assembly members sent a joint letter to Governor Hochul on Tuesday, urging her to sign Assembly Bill 7208 as soon as possible. A.7208 (Levenberg), known colloquially as the “Save the Hudson” bill, would prohibit radioactive wastewater discharges into the Hudson River in connection with the decommissioning of a nuclear power plant. A bipartisan group of elected officials from more than 30 municipalities on both sides of the river have passed resolutions in support of the legislation, and both A.7208 and the Senate version of the bill, S.6893 (Harckham), had bipartisan support in their chambers. The Assembly passed the bill 101-44, and the Senate passed it unanimously. ABOUT THOSE ELECTRIC BUSES---ANOTHER ONE GOES BANKRUPT---OTHERS ON THE VERGE---WILL SURELY GO DOWN IN HISTORY AS ONE OF THE BIGGEST STOCK MARKET HEISTS EVER, MADE POSSIBLE BY CONSENSUAL HALLUCINATION

The Collapse of the EV SPACs: Another One Goes Bankrupt, Others on the Verge

by Wolf Richter • Aug 9, 2023

The SPAC boom will surely go down in history as one of the biggest stock-market heists ever, made possible by Consensual Hallucination.
By Wolf Richter for WOLF STREET.

EV maker Proterra, which makes mostly a few electric buses a year – when giant competitors make many thousands – filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy today, 25 months after having gone public via merger with a SPAC. It once had a market cap of nearly $4 billion.

It was by no means a record in terms of how long it took for an EV SPAC to go bankrupt; that record is held by Electric Last Mile Solutions, which took only 12 months to get it over with. EV maker Lordstown made the trip from SPAC merger to bankruptcy in a little over two-and-a-half years. The shares of other EV SPACS have totally collapsed, and most of them are headed for bankruptcy.
