THANK YOU FROM THE CROTON ROTARY CLUB: THE 38TH ANNUAL CROTON ROTARY AUTO SHOW ETC.

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton -- our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship -- in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

To the Editor:

The Croton Rotary would like to thank all those who supported the 38th Annual Croton Rotary Auto Show and Cool Car Parade that took place on September 25th.

Thanks to Franzoso Contracting and Croton DPW who helped in setting up, taking down and generally preparing the Croton Harmon Train Station to accommodate nearly a hundred cars and over 500 people who came to see the event and enjoy the many other activities on a cloudy but dry Sunday afternoon.

The 38th Annual Auto Show couldn’t have happened without the The Road Knights, who judged the contestants and selected the winners.

Thanks as always to the Croton Police Department, Croton Fire Department, Croton EMS who were on hand to display their equipment and answer questions.

Kudos to our Famous Chili Cook-off contestants: Franki’s, 140 Grand, Fino, and 105-Twenty. The delicious entry from 140 Grand was the winner. This contest is a great illustration of how many local businesses partner with Croton Rotary to support our efforts locally and around the world.

Thanks to Pedego Electric Bikes, part of this year’s EV Corral, and Allure Auto Spa, who sponsored booths at the show, as well as the Boy Scouts selling their popcorn.

Thank you to the many volunteers who made this event possible including Croton Harmon High School students and members of the Croton Caring Committee, along with Chris from Westchester Balloon Co. for making this a fun event for the whole family.

Special thanks to our Gold Sponsor; Donn Gerelli Insurance Agency, Inc., Silver Sponsors; Croton Auto Park, Hudson View Automotive, and Hudson View Collision, and our Bronze Sponsors; Berkshire Hathaway River Town Real Estate, Franzoso Contracting, Max Finkelstein, Inc., Croton Car Club, and Pedago Electric Bikes.

Over one hundred businesses and organizations bought ads in the Car Show Journal that was distributed to 3,000 Gazette subscribers the week before the event. A list of Journal advertisers can be found on the Club’s website: crotonrotary.com. The 2022 Rotary Journal included a listing of the many service organizations that work alongside Rotary and our engaged and generous business partners to make our community the best it can be. This listing of volunteer service opportunities will soon be available on the Club’s website.

We are the local chapter of Rotary International. Thank you, again to all who demonstrated our motto, “Service Above Self” on this fun, community day!

IN THE NEWS: FINAL INFLATION REPORT BEFORE MIDTERMS RELEASED; THE NUMBERS ARE VERY BAD

In the final Consumer Price Index report to be released before November's midterm elections, consumer inflation blew past Wall Street estimates in September to the highest core CPI read since 1982, proving again that the Biden administration's months of claims — first that inflation wasn't a problem, then that it was "transitory," then that it was being fixed by the president — was just political spin.

Headline CPI advanced 0.4 percent in September, double the 0.2 percent estimated, for a 12-month increase of 8.2 percent, also hotter than predicted. That headline number had advanced 0.1 percent in August, showing that price increases are accelerating again (4x in one month) despite Biden's frequent parties at the White House to celebrate the passage of the inflation reduction act and other Democrat policies to supposedly bring relief to Americans. THE EXAMINER NEWS: $45.5 MILLION CAPITAL PROJECTS VOTE PROPOSED FOR CROTON-HARMON SCHOOLS

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton -- our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship -- in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

$45.5M Capital Projects Vote Proposed for Croton-Harmon Schools
October 12, 2022 Rick Pezzullo

Voters in the Croton-Harmon School District will likely be presented with a $45.5 million capital projects’ referendum in December that scool officials maintain will not raise taxes.

Plans include $17.5 million in infrastructure work, most of which is related to the age of school buildings. The remaining $28 million would be dedicated to a variety of indoor and outdoor improvements at Croton-Harmon High School, Pierre Van Cortlandt Middle School, Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School and the Spencer Field Complex.

The Croton-Harmon Board of Education is expected to authorize the Dec. 13 referendum at its Oct. 20 meeting.

“The capital project addresses our district’s continued focus on safety and security in our schools through the creation of a visitor vestibule at Croton-Harmon High School and installation of new security cameras at each of our schools,” said Assistant Superintendent for Business Denise Harrington-Cohen. “The project also furthers our commitment to health, wellness and environmental sustainability in several ways, including the introduction of new, high efficiency systems, ventilation improvements, roof replacements to allow for further installation of solar panels, and the enhancement of our infrastructure to support additional electric school buses in the future.”

A Future Facilities Planning Team, composed of faculty and staff members, students, community members, administrators and Board of Education representatives, first started grappling with capital projects needs last spring that focused on infrastructure, athletics, the arts, and teaching and learning. TWITTER AGAIN--IN THE NEWS--REINSTATES FLORIDA SURGEON GENERAL'S TWEET AFTER RESTRICTING IT

Twitter restricted a tweet from the Florida surgeon general on Friday — only to reinstate it Sunday.

"Today, we released an analysis on COVID-19 mRNA vaccines the public needs to be aware of," Dr. Joseph Ladapo's restricted tweet read. "This analysis showed an increased risk of cardiac-related death among men 18-39. FL will not be silent on the truth." Ladapo was referencing new guidance released by the state Health Department, which cautioned younger males against getting the COVID-19 mRNA vaccine.  MORE AT https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/twitter-reinstates-florida-surgeon-generals-tweet

Forty-five percent of Montgomery County students identified as nonbinary in survey

Jeremiah Poff - Officials in Montgomery County Public Schools are pushing back on reports that the district has seen a significant increase in nonbinary students after a picture of a slide revealing district data from counseling surveys circulated online.   A picture of the slide was shared on Twitter by Elicia Eberhart-Bliss, the acting assistant principal of Quince Orchard High School, and showed that since 2019, the school district's counselors had processed 423 intake forms concerning student gender identity, with 45% of respondents indicating they identified as nonbinary.  READ MORE FROM https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/forty-five-percent-of-montgomery-county-students-identified-as-nonbinary-in-survey/
