IN THE NEWS: TOO MUCH FREE GOVERNMENT AID IS FUELING DEPRESSING "PRO-LAZY" AMERICA

First the government paid people not to work because business was disrupted by COVID-19 -- but they liked that so much they stopped working. Now the "antiwork" movement has become the new epidemic.

Government policies have created a culture of laziness in recent years — mostly in ways you’d expect, but some you wouldn’t.

First the COVID-19 pandemic opened up the spigot of government aid. Initially that aid went to families that, in many cases, genuinely needed it because of government-mandated business closures that prevented people from working. Yet as those lockdowns loosened, the benefits provided to people who stayed home remained intact. The government never turned off the tap.   MORE AT  https://nypost.com/2022/08/27/too-much-free-government-aid-is-fueling-pro-lazy-america/

AOC, MONDAIRE JONES, PROGRESSIVE COMRADES LOST BIG IN THE PRIMARIES

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her progressive comrades lost big in primaries BY JON LEVINE---NY POST

They didn’t get high Marx.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her “Squad” of left-wing allies will return to Congress as mere “annoyances” next year, with both their size and clout diminished in the wake of Primary Day, pundits told The Post.

“The policies that The Squad stood for were never popular and the candidates who tried to mirror those policies are finding themselves out of Congress,” said a senior Democratic Capitol Hill insider, who believes the group will become little more than “gadflies” in a Republican-controlled house come November.

The far-left Dems — who cheered defunding the police during the George Floyd riots — suffered blows on multiple fronts.

The biggest loser was AOC comrade Rep. Mondaire Jones...MORE AT https://nypost.com/2022/08/27/aoc-and-her-progressive-comrades-lost-big-in-primaries/

A PRE-WOKE DISNEY FILM FOR THE BUCKET LIST: MARY POPPINS

ON THIS DAY IN 1964 Walt Disney's musical film "Mary Poppins" directed by Robert Stevenson, starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke, with songs by Richard and Robert Sherman, premiered at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles, California---and goes on to win 5 Academy Awards.

And now from the days of pre-woke Disney, an oldie but goodie post from our friends at European Film Star Postcards:

In Walt Disney's musical-fantasy Mary Poppins (Robert Stevenson, 1964) live-action is successfully combined with animation. The songs by the Sherman Brothers are performed by a great cast with Julie Andrews in her film debut, Dick Van Dyke, David Tomlinson, and Glynis Johns. The film is based on the first book in P. L. Travers's series about magical nanny Mary Poppins, who employs music and adventure to help two neglected children become closer to their father. Mary Poppins received a total of 13 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture....TO READ AND SEE MUCH MORE, CLICK HERE.

NEW FROM OUR FRIENDS AT EUROPEAN FILM STAR POSTCARDS: TV DREAMBOATS OF THE 1950'SsAND 1960s

Summer is not officially over yet, but we have to return to our jobs or schools, and happily, the new television season is starting again. Of course, many people are watching their favourite series online now, but many other people still love to see these series together on the couch. In the 1950s and 1960s, everybody was doing that and American broadcasters like NBC and CBS produced these series for the whole world to enjoy. Interestingly, many hunky young actors became stars in these series. Fanboys and fangirls everywhere collected their postcards on which they often posed shirtless.

We were too young to see most of these series at the time, but we love to collect these postcards now which must have given lots of fans romantic dreams once.  SEE AND READ MUCH MORE AT European Film Star Postcards: TV dreamboats of the 1950s and 1960s
