TRANS INSANITY--THE HUMAN RIGHTS CULT HAS REPLACED COMMON SENSE COMPASSION--JANET DALEY--THE TELEGRAPH

The most shocking thing about the Cass report is that it had to be commissioned at all. Why in God’s name did it require an official government study to establish that medical interference in the sexual development of healthy children was unacceptable?

The outrage over this absurdity has been thoroughly aired – not least by my colleagues on these pages – so let’s take that as read. Whatever benign inclinations there may once have been in this campaign, they were swamped by the most poisonous wave of personal and professional denigration that I have ever seen.

That itself should have been a significant clue: the hysterical vindictiveness with which the militant trans lobby pursued any attempt to question its assumptions should have thrown up an immediate warning. People whose response to any challenge is to extirpate their critics are not well-intentioned.

But it’s over. This whole bizarre phenomenon has imploded and nobody needs to be afraid to utter obvious truths any longer.  MORE AT

THE CASS REVIEWS SHOWS IT'S A DISASTER TO CONFUSE OPINION WITH EXPERTISE BY CHARLES MOORE, TELEGRAPH

The first words of Dr Hilary Cass in her review published this week are: “This review is not about defining what it means to be trans.” Her wise refusal to engage in that heated debate gives the report its power.

As disclosed in its title, the report is about “gender identity services for children and young people”. “It is,” Dr Cass says, “about what the healthcare approach should be.” It unearths what has gone dreadfully wrong in a very sensitive part of the National Health Service.

Dr Cass’s discoveries and recommendations are important in their own right. The trans debate – moral, medical, social, scientific, political – will now be based on much better information. Hundreds of articles could be written about her findings alone, and probably will be. But today I would like to use the Cass Review to make a wider point.

It is about the terrible things that happen when people cease to behave professionally.

Dr Cass’s conclusion is that the provision of puberty blockers – and other aspects of gender identity treatment – has been rushed forward on dangerously thin evidence. She speaks of “a failure to reliably collect even the most basic data and information”. She adds that “data have often not been shared or have been unavailable”.

That is a shocking thing. It corrupts the NHS system more widely. In a letter to a newspaper yesterday, a Cambridge GP, Dr Fiona Cornish, pointed out how the lack of evidence has compromised professionals like herself: “As GPs, we are asked to prescribe by gender clinics” and have really had no choice about doing so: “The only position to take is to follow NHS guidelines, which allow puberty-blocking hormones. To decline on personal grounds leaves one open to complaints or a claim of discrimination.”

BY SPECIAL REQUEST: PHOTOS FROM THE 2015 HISTORICAL SUNDAY @ ASBURY METHODIST'S BETHEL CHAPEL

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

BY SPECIAL REQUEST: Asbury Methodist Church celebrated "Historical Sunday" 2015 (a.k.a. "Historic Sunday") at the Bethel Chapel. (SEE THE PHOTOS BELOW.)

For those who don't know, the Bethel Chapel is surrounded by the historic Bethel Cemetery. The Chapel was built in the early 1790's on land donated by Phillip Van Cortlandt. Over the years the chapel has numbered among its worshipers many of the men prominent in the early history of our nation, more particularly in the founding of the Town of Cortlandt and Westchester County.

The wooden clapboard structure has not changed very much over the years and contains an organ said to be one of the oldest in the United States. Bethel Chapel and cemetery are listed on the NYS Register of Historic Places and in the National Registry.

ORWELL WATCH: NPR AND THE DEATH OF FAIRNESS---MATT TAIBBI---MORE FROM THE "BIAS" FILES

A story about facts and decency is quickly reduced to another partisan bias tale.

Earlier this week on The Free Press, Uri Berliner dropped a bomb on the public media world with “I’ve Been at NPR for 25 Years. Here’s How We Lost America’s Trust.” As discussed on the new America This Week, the longtime senior editor described how NPR fumbled three stories: Covid, the Hunter Biden laptop affair, and the Trump-Russia scandal. Regarding the latter:

At NPR, we hitched our wagon to Trump’s most visible antagonist, Representative Adam Schiff… Schiff, who was the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, became NPR’s guiding hand, its ever-present muse. By my count, NPR hosts interviewed Schiff 25 times about Trump and Russia. During many of those conversations, Schiff alluded to purported evidence of collusion. The Schiff talking points became the drumbeat of NPR news reports.

But when the Mueller report found no credible evidence of collusion, NPR’s coverage was notably sparse. Russiagate quietly faded from our programming…more at Orwell Watch: NPR and the Death of Fairness (racket.news)
