BY SPECIAL REQUEST: PHOTOS FROM THE 2015 HISTORICAL SUNDAY @ ASBURY METHODIST'S BETHEL CHAPEL

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

BY SPECIAL REQUEST: Asbury Methodist Church celebrated "Historical Sunday" 2015 (a.k.a. "Historic Sunday") at the Bethel Chapel. (SEE THE PHOTOS BELOW.)

For those who don't know, the Bethel Chapel is surrounded by the historic Bethel Cemetery. The Chapel was built in the early 1790's on land donated by Phillip Van Cortlandt. Over the years the chapel has numbered among its worshipers many of the men prominent in the early history of our nation, more particularly in the founding of the Town of Cortlandt and Westchester County.

The wooden clapboard structure has not changed very much over the years and contains an organ said to be one of the oldest in the United States. Bethel Chapel and cemetery are listed on the NYS Register of Historic Places and in the National Registry.
