Notice of Reopening of Nominations for BOE Trustee from Croton-Harmon Schools

This email is being shared by the Village as it represents an issue of potentially broad interest to the community.

On May 8, 2024, at 10:38 a.m., the District Clerk of the Croton-Harmon School District received notification that one of the candidates in the election as Trustee, Jeneen Garcia, has withdrawn her candidacy for the Croton-Harmon Board of Education. There are two candidates remaining on the ballot--Omar Mayyasi and Ana Teague.

In accordance with Education Law Section 2018(a) and Board Policy 2120.1, the Board of Education has reopened nominations for Trustee. A petition for nomination for Trustee, signed by at least 25 qualified voters of the district, may be filed with the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. Petition packets can be obtained on the district's website, at https://www.chufsd.org/departments/business-office/budget-info/school-board-election-budget-vote-information or from the District Clerk at the District Office, 10 Gerstein Street, Croton-on-Hudson, during regular business hours (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.).

The Village's annual Memorial Day Ceremony will take place on Monday, May 27, 2024, at 11:00 AM. Hosted by The American Legion Fox - Eklof Post 505, under the leadership of William Tuttle, Commander, and Joseph Martinelli, Adjutant, the event will take place at Veterans Corners, 173-179 Cleveland Drive. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be relocated to the Gym of the Holy Name of Mary Church, 120 Grand St.

Anarchists at George Washington University (GWU) in Washington, D.C., have apparently called for the beheadings of school administrators amid their continued anti-Israel encampment.

On Tuesday, demonstrators on campus called for the "guillotine" to be used on GW President Ellen Granberg and other school administrators, a video posted to social media showed.

"Guillotine, Guillotine, Guillotine, Guillotine" a person repeatedly chanted as others joined in, while some specifically targeted Christopher Alan Bracey, GW’s African American provost, The National Desk (TND) reported. "Bracey, Bracey we see you, you assault students too."....At least 35 people were arrested at GWU as of Wednesday morning, DC police told Fox News. In the days since President Joe Biden’s administration published sweeping revisions to Title IX rules, much of the focus has been on how the updates are likely to impact female athletes — but that’s far from the only concern.

Critics quickly pointed out that those updates, which the Biden administration said were supposed to provide more protections for LGBTQ students, could be used to protect trans-identifying males competing on women’s sports teams.

But according to attorney Candice Jackson, who served as Acting Assistant Secretary in the Department of Education during the Trump administration, the rule changes could lead to further complications once applied in conjunction with policies that are already in place — specifically with regard to schools being “mandatory reporters” of suspected abuse.
