BELTWAY CONFIDENTIAL, BLACK LIVES MATTER WAS BUILT ON A LIE, ZACAHARY FARIA

EXCERPTED---Read the entire article at the link below.

The Black Lives Matter movement started as a result of the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. But the movement’s central contention about its inciting incident is a lie.

On Tuesday, the eight-year anniversary of Brown’s death, Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) claimed that Brown was murdered and that “we need to honor Michael’s life with action” and “dismantle white supremacy.” ..........The “hands up, don’t shoot” chant spawned from Brown’s death was spouted by everyone from athletes to legacy media, but it was false. Physical evidence showed that Brown engaged in a physical altercation with a police officer, and investigation after investigation rejected the assertion that Brown had his hands up — and “the majority of witnesses” told federal investigators it was untrue.  Even President Barack Obama’s Department of Justice, run by Attorney General Eric Holder, determined that the officer acted in self-defense. The Washington Post called “hands up, don’t shoot” one of the most outlandish claims of 2015. Yet the myth has persisted for years.

IN THE NEWS - INFLATION SURGES 8.5% IN JULY DESPITE DROP IN GASOLINE PRICES

Inflation surged 8.5% in July, hovering at a four-decade high despite a drop in gasoline prices and adding pressure on the Federal Reserve to bring down the price of necessities.

The July reading of the Labor Department’s Consumer Price Index, a closely watched measure of the costs of goods and services, marked a slight decrease from the previous month, when inflation hit a fresh peak of 9.1%.

In a sign that broad price pressures continue to hammer the US economy, core inflation, which excludes volatile food and gas prices, increased by 5.9% annually and by 0.3% compared to June.

The latest CPI number eased as the gasoline index fell by 7.7% in July, while the overall energy index fell 4.6%. Nevertheless, food prices continued to rise, jumping 10.9% compared to the same month last year and 1.1% compared to June.

Food costs posted their highest 12-month increase since 1979. Shelter costs also rose by 0.5% month-over-month and 5.7% year-over-year. READ AND SEE MUCH MORE AT Inflation surges 8.5% in July despite drop in gasoline prices (nypost.com)

On this day in 1950 "Sunset Boulevard", American film noir directed by Billy Wilder, and starring William Holden and Gloria Swanson, premiered at Radio City Music Hall in NYC.

For those who don't know, Gloria Swanson was one of the village's most notable residents., having lived on Mt. Airy.  You can read more about that HERE.

And from the Everything Croton archives: Look what one of the Elves found--a 1950 movie review with great pix too from our stash of vintage magazines---for Sunset Boulevard from Modern Screen Magazine. Again, click on the images.

Sunset Boulevard starred William Holden as Joe Gillis, an unsuccessful screenwriter, and Gloria Swanson as Norma Desmond, a faded silent-film star who draws him into her fantasy world, where she dreams of making a triumphant return to the screen. Erich von Stroheim plays Max von Mayerling, her devoted servant...he is superb in this part.

Sunset Boulevard was ranked number 12 on the American Film Institute's list of the 100 best American films of the 20th century.

A wonderful old film...and definitely add it to your bucket list along with....click here.

The “Anti-racism, Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policy” at South Kingstown school district in Rhode Island says anyone in the educational community is “personally responsible” and must “immediately report” different kinds of racism including, “cyber racism,” “interpersonal racism” and “institutional racism,” according to the district policy. The policy states that “any member of South Kingstown is encouraged to report incidents or allegations of incidents” that break anti-racism policy guidelines......READ THE ENTIRE ARTICLE AT ‘Orwellian’: School District Encourages Entire Town To Report Violations Of ‘Anti-Racism’ Policy | (dailycallernewsfoundation.org)

1915 CLIFFORD HARMON ETAL. - MIRROR FILMS BUYS LONG ISLAND STUDIO

Welcome to The New Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short Everything Croton.

As many of you know, Clifford B. Harmon tried his hand at movie-making via the MIRROR FILM COMPANY a.k.a. Mirror Films.  (You can read more about that here.)

Here's a 1915 article from MOTOGRAPHY about the company---and the officers. Click on the images and links below....

In a nutshell, Mirror Films Incorporated was a short-lived motion picture company producing films from late 1915 to early 1917. Their stated purpose was to bring business practices to bear on motion picture production in order to make a profit, to "look upon film...as so much canned product"....You can read more here.

IN THE NEWS: FBI SEARCHED MELANIA'S WARDROBE, SPENT HOURS IN TRUMP'S PRIVATE OFFICE DURING MAR-A-LAGO RAID

This post is closed to all comments. Comments and questions must be referred to the media sources(s) cited,

FBI agents scoured Melania Trump’s wardrobe and spent several hours combing through Donald Trump’s private office, breaking open his safe and rifling through drawers when they raided the former First Family’s Mar-a-Lago home in Florida Monday morning.

The Post has learned that the search warrant used by the FBI to enter the palatial Palm Beach property focused solely on presidential records and evidence of classified information being stored there.

A source close to the former president expressed concern that FBI agents or DOJ lawyers conducting the search could have “planted stuff” because they would not allow Trump’s attorneys inside the 128-room building to observe the operation, which lasted more than nine hours....30 plain clothes agents.......more at

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR: A LETTER FROM JOEL GINGOLD AND THE GAZETTE

Welcome to The New Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton-on-Hudson: our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship -- in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

The following letter appeared in THE GAZETTE.----July 31, 2022

To the Editor,

Be careful what you wish for!

Driven principally by lawsuits from the Cuomo (remember him?) administration and Riverkeeper, with much sniping from the sidelines by organizations such as the Indian Point Safe Energy Coalition, the Indian Point nuclear units were shut down in 2020 and 2021. All of these groups vociferously assured us that the shutdown would not increase the generation of greenhouse gases. Well, I hope they’re all happy now.

In June, the NY Independent System Operator (NYISO), which operates the state’s electric grid, reported that, as a consequence of the shutdown, downstate fossil-fueled electric generation, and the greenhouse gases it spews into the atmosphere, have increased by 12% to 89% of the total, with this summer’s estimate up to 92%. And the outlook for future years is grim as older fossil units will be retired without the great surge in renewables predicted by the Indian Point opponents.

Absent the hydro power, generated principally at Niagara Falls, and the four operating upstate nuclear units, NY would be near the bottom of the list in carbon-free generation. In 2021, less than 5% of our electric power was generated by wind and solar installations. In Iowa, that number is about 55%. In California, 25%; and Texas, 23%.

And this despite the passage in 2019 of the ambitious NY Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) which requires 70% of our electricity to be carbon-free by 2030 and 100% by 2040. We’re simply not making a great deal of headway in that direction.

It is not necessary to recount the horrors visited on areas all over the planet by climate change. Anyone who reads a newspaper of watches the news should be fully familiar with them. We are fortunate that our area has been spared the worst of it, but it’s only a matter of time before we, too, are also severely impacted.

So we have to rapidly accelerate the installation of renewable wind and solar production throughout the state and the nation. And we have to add a multiplicity of storage batteries to ensure that we have a reliable 24/7 supply of electricity. Since many of these installations will have to be in remote areas, because they require huge tracts of land, we need a lot more transmission lines to get that power to where it’s needed. And you know that NIMBY is alive and well across the country, including right here in Croton, and many of those projects are being vociferously opposed, adding years to their schedules. If we cannot accept the very difficult and yes, unpleasant, compromises that we must make, we won’t have a prayer of even approaching the objectives of the CLCPA.

To meet those goals, we not only have to add renewable generation to account for increased demand due to electric vehicles, heat pumps, and the like, but we must replace all of our existing fossil-fueled (and some would say nuclear) generation. And remember, because of their low capacity factors and need for enormous sites, 1,000 MWe of wind or solar power is not equivalent to 1,000 MWe of fossil or nuclear generation.

To put this in perspective, Indian Point generated over 2,000 MWe of carbon-free electricity on 250 acres. If we choose to replace Indian Point with solar farms, it will require 12,000 MWe of solar, not 2,000 MWe, because solar in our area operates at a capacity factor (c.f.) of only about 15% and U.S. nuclear plants operate at c.f.s above 90%. And those 12,000 MWe of solar would require not 250 acres, but about 90 square miles of area (that is not a typo), more than 10 times the total area of Croton, plus a lot of storage batteries to keep the lights on.

A front page story in a recent edition of the Journal-News asked, ”Did Indian Point Close Too Soon?” It is now clear that, despite all of Indian Point’s problems, the answer is a resounding YES!! But the deed has been done and we now have to spend our time and money on expanding our renewable portfolio, and equally important, be willing to make the highly contentious compromises that will be essential to getting that done.

Sincerely,

Joel E. Gingold
