IN THE NEWS: THE MOB, TWITTER, ABOUT THAT LITTLE LEAGUE WORLD SERIES "RACISM" EVENT

Watching this week as the internet tried to brand the Davenport, Iowa, Little League team as a bunch of racists, during what should have been one of the happiest times of their lives, I was reminded of something my late father used to say about youth sports, “It’s the adults who ruin it all.”

My dad pretty much had a Ph.D. on the subject, coaching basketball at our Catholic grammar school, and officiating football from the Pop Warner level to Division II college. He ran the local program to teach football officials, and for more than 20 years, he stood on the sideline, watching his own three children play basketball, baseball, soccer and football.

Of course, my father was talking about a small percentage of the grown-ups, but when they do it, they do it up big. Poor behavior on the playing field by people who are old enough to know better has become a national epidemic. We’ve seen so many videos of parents brawling at their kids’ games that it should be its own sanctioned sport.

Back in the spring, there was a rash of violence against youth referees, with one Mississippi softball ump getting punched in the eye by a player’s parent wearing a “mother of the year” T-shirt. There are tales of parents pushing their children to the point of burnout and more extreme, horrific cases like Aqib Talib’s brother murdering the youth football coach in Texas.

Many of these shameful incidents occur from the sideline — presumably done by people who have a stake in that child’s life. However, the most recent example of adults ruining youth sports came in the most 2022 way possible: from absolute strangers on Twitter.  MORE AT https://nypost.com/2022/08/26/twitter-to-blame-not-kids-for-racist-little-league-moment/

BREAKING NEWS, NY TIMES--The Fed chair said the central bank would continue to forcefully combat inflation and acknowledged that rising rates would be painful.

Friday, August 26, 2022 10:05 AM ET

Jerome Powell, who was speaking at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City’s annual conference near Jackson, Wyo., used his most closely watched speech of the year to underline both the Fed’s dedication to bringing inflation back under control and to emphasize that its policy moves so far are not enough to achieve that goal — more will need to be done to beat back rapid price increases.  Read the latest

Fairfax County Public Schools says parent consent not needed for gender change on school forms---New training materials for teachers in Fairfax County Public Schools shows students can change their name and pronoun on school documents without parental consent. The documents obtained by Fox News show slides instructing teachers to allow students to change their pronouns in class, on official records, and use locker rooms and bathrooms in line with their chosen gender.  "Students will receive diplomas and transcripts with both the legal and chosen name," according to one slide. "Parental permission is not required," is listed directly underneath the bullet.  READ AND SEE MORE HERE.

IN THE NEWS: THE CDC NEEDS A COMPLETE OVERHAUL--STARTING WITH WALENSKY

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Rochelle Walensky launched a damage control campaign this month to save her agency’s reputation after its disastrous handling of the COVID pandemic. She admitted the CDC made “dramatic mistakes” with regard to the pandemic and said “accountability” will be a priority in the agency’s “resetting.”

Notably, Walensky seemed to place the blame for the agency’s failures on the bureaucrats it employs, asserting that “they’re (emphasis added) up to the task” of doing better rather than “we’re up to the task.” She’s clearly trying to protect her job and position, so she’s putting distance between herself and her agency, presumably hoping to avoid a personal reckoning for all the damage the CDC has done.

But Walensky is as responsible for the significant drop in public trust in the government’s public health regime as Dr. Anthony Fauci. The anti-science policies she recommended and the public health messaging she spread were purposeful, dishonest, and malign.....
"The number of reported COVID deaths is another intentional distortion. The CDC’s COVID tracker claims 1,036,604 Americans died from the virus in 18 months. But this number fails to take into account that most of these people had preexisting conditions and comorbidities. In fact, studies show that 73 % to 88 % of the deaths were due to their preexisting medical conditions rather than the virus itself."

REMEMBERING TED KNIGHT & CADDYSHACK, ANOTHER MOVIE FOR YOUR BUCKET LIST

Who died this date in 1986. Knight was a very funny guy--and many will remember him as the vain and untalented WJM newscaster Ted Baxter on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. He received six Emmy Award nominations for the role, winning the Emmy for "Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in Comedy" in 1973 and 1976.

But for your editor, Knght will always remain Judge Elihu Smails of Caddyshack fame. Read more about Knight here.  Yes, Caddyshack is so non-p.c.---but it's still one for your movie bucket list.
