The Destruction of Riverside Avenue---CLICK ON THE PHOTO.

In September 1960 demolition began on Croton’s waterfront business district to construct Route 9. Riverside Avenue, from the intersection with Maple up to Farrington Road, was rerouted and most of the old buildings demolished. By the time the project was completed, parts of residential streets from Benedict Boulevard in Harmon up to Wolf Road were also eliminated, along with the beautiful Beaux Arts-style bridge across the mouth of the Croton River. Village Historian Marc Cheshire will recount the upheaval and loss from this seminal event in Croton’s history.

Thursday, September 14, 7 p.m. at the Croton Free Library, Ottinger Room.

NIH IS DUE FOR AN OVERHAUL AFTER COVID EXPOSED LIES AND ABUSES

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., filed a criminal referral with the Department of Justice against Anthony Fauci for allegedly lying to Congress about the National Institutes of Health’s gain-of-function research. While we don’t desire to see Fauci imprisoned, the complaint demonstrates the severity of the NIH’s deficiencies and the need for sweeping reform.

Any honest assessment of the NIH’s pandemic performance would give it a poor grade. While NIH support for the rapid development of the Covid vaccine deserves some credit, the NIH failed in almost every other aspect of its contribution to the pandemic response.

With the recent appointment of a new NIH director to replace Francis Collins and a new National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) director to replace Anthony Fauci, the time is now to reflect and for Congress to enact structural reforms. But what needs fixing? The most crucial priority is to remove fundamental conflicts of interest brought to light by abuses of these positions by Collins and Fauci.

LOHUD---Robocalls are out, robotexts are in. What to know about the growing phone scam--Emily Barnes---New York State Team

Robocalls? They're so 2010s.

As bothersome automated telemarketing calls decrease across New York, robotexts are the new enemy no. 1 in the phone scam category. But they're so difficult to track that it's tough to know how many are pinging New Yorkers' mobile phones, and who's sending them.

VAN JONES OUSTED FROM HIS WOKE NONPROFIT AMID FISCAL WOES

Activist entrepreneur Van Jones has been ousted from a woke nonprofit he founded amid internal rancor and fiscal mismanagement, according to a report — even though the group is swimming in donated cash from Amazon’s Jeff Bezos.

The CNN commentator was recently bounced from the board of Dream.org, a “justice innovation” organization he established in 2015, the Daily Beast reported.

Bezos gifted Jones with a $100 million blank check for his philanthropic work in 2021, in a press conference following the billionaire’s trip into space aboard his company Blue Origin’s first commercial flight.

In addition, Jones’s group Green for All, an environmental advocacy initiative operating under the Dream.org umbrella, received a separate $10 million Bezos grant in 2020.

But the group has been burning through the cash with little to show for it, leading to Jones’s break with the nonprofit’s board of directors. MORE AT Van Jones ousted from his woke nonprofit amid fiscal woes (nypost.com)
