US HITS IRAN-BACKED MILITANTS WITH 4TH ROUND OF AIRSTRIKES

United States fighter jets struck two sites in Iraq used by Iran-linked militants on Wednesday morning local time, according to U.S. Central Command and defense officials. This is the fourth round of American retaliatory airstrikes in response to a near-daily spate of attacks on U.S. forces in Iraq and Syria by Iran-backed groups. The attacks began in mid-October, 10 days after Hamas' deadly terror attack on Israel.  READ MORE AT US hits Iran-backed militants with 4th round of airstrikes (msn.com)

LOHUD---HERE'S WHAT REP. MIKE LAWLER SAID AT SOLD-OUT ROCKLAND TOWN HALL

Welcome to The New Everything Croton--a collection of all things Croton, our history, our homes, our issues, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

Here's what Rep. Mike Lawler said at sold-out Rockland Town Hall
David McKay Wilson--Rockland/Westchester Journal News

Rep. Mike Lawler’s sold-out Town Hall at Rockland Community College on Sunday was one of the hottest tickets in Rockland last weekend. But a friend whose plans changed offered me his seat to hear my Congressman answer questions in an unscripted event.

I took him up on the offer. I was interested in hearing Lawler’s pitch to constituents in Rockland, on his home turf in the 17th Congressional District — a battleground in the fight for control of the House of Representatives in 2024. MICHAEL BALTER---Gouveia update: Croton's board favors a plan to make a plan. Is it for real this time?

At the Board of Trustees work session Monday evening, a proposal by Trustee Nora NIcholson to create a new working group to plan for a cultural and community center drew enthusiasm.

Last night’s Board of Trustees work session was a long meeting—about two and a half hours—and covered a number of topics. Among them was the continuing discussion of the plans for Gouveia Park, which the village acquired as a behest from the late Laurel Gouveia about a decade ago. I expressed my own somewhat critical thoughts on this process a couple of days ago, in a post entitled “Whither goeth Gouveia?”

Before that discussion began, however, Croton Mayor Brian Pugh announced that long-time Trustee Ann Gallelli was stepping down from the board for health reasons. She will be replaced for the rest of her term by former Trustee and Planning Board member Ian Murtaugh. It is sad that Gallelli, who had so much to do with the original acquisition of Gouveia Park, will not now be involved in the planning for its future. We wish her all the best.

The discussion of Gouveia was spearheaded by Trustee Nora Nicholson, who had prepared a memo for the board entitled “Gouveia Park Next Steps” (see below for the full text.) Nicholson proposed the creation of a Cultural and Community Center in Gouveia Park, which would occupy the Gouveia house. Towards that goal, Nicholson also proposed that the Board create a Gouveia Park Working Group. Although the exact membership is yet to be determined, the proposed group would include two liaisons from the Board of Trustees, the village manager, and representatives from the recreation and public works departments as well as from several relevant advisory committees. It would also include two appointed Croton residents, to be named later -----READ MORE AT Gouveia update: Croton's board favors a plan to make a plan. Is it for real this time? (substack.com)
