Newly released police bodycam footage captures the moment cops in Yonkers are forced to scuffle with a group of rowdy migrants at a local hotel packed with asylum seekers.

Police busted two people during the Tuesday afternoon melee at a local Ramada Inn — but not before they were surrounded and berated in Spanish by an unruly migrant mob, the footage shows. OAKLAND LEGACY JEWELRY STORE ALL BUT WIPED OUT IN BRAZEN DAYTIME HEIST, UNTIL OWNER GETS HIS GUN, VIDEO AND GOFUNDME PAGE

April 12, 2024 | Tom Tillison --At this stage of the game, it’s remarkable that small business owners can stay in business in California.

One of Oakland’s oldest jewelry stores was targeted in a brazen, armed daytime robbery on Wednesday that all but cleaned out the store. The robbery was the worst in the family-owned store’s 40 years of operation, ABC 7 reported.

Eight armed suspects stormed into Phuong Jewelry in Oakland’s Chinatown just after noon and began crashing the display cases and grabbing the contents while the 69-year-old mother ducked behind the counter and screamed for help — she would eventually escape to a back room, where her 76-year-old husband emerged with a gun to chase the thugs away. DISTURBING VIDEO Dion Lim on X: "8 armed suspects ransacked the legacy Oakland Chinatown business Phuong Jewelry yesterday at around 12:30. The family tells me, in less than one minute 85-90% of their inventory was taken. Watch as owner Diane runs to the back & gets her 76-year old husband. GOFUNDME PAGE FOR THE FAMILY A GoFundMe account has been set up to help the business, with $5,275 collected as of this writing toward a goal of $50,000.

A reader is seeking information about a village bookstore called Jorelle's Books.

This book store rented space in what is now Upper Village Blooms---many many years ago. (It may have also been spelled JOR-EL). It was here for a little less than a year and was modeled after the book store in Peekskill.  It also specialized in first editions.  There were complaints, however, that the vintage magazine section was "too conservative" and "gun-focused" by a handful of young women. The owner, a war veteran, chose to close and re-open out West. That's all we have learned. You might find more in the Historical Society.

YES. Again, archived at the old blog. The Croton Historical Society may have more. For the archived post, GO TO EverythingCroton: CIRCA 1972: PEOPLE TO PEOPLE WEEKEND @ TEMPLE ISRAEL OF NORTHERN WESTCHESTER

APRIL INVASIVE SPECIES NEWS FROM THE NYSDEC--PROTEST NY'S WATERS FROM INVASIVE SPECIES THIS FISHING SEASON

April 1 marks the beginning of the harvest season for trout! While fishing this season, you can take steps to protect your waters from aquatic invasive species (AIS). AIS can outcompete native species, damage economies and ecosystems, and negatively impact recreation.

Invasive species can be carried on fishing equipment.

Follow these guidelines to help prevent the spread of AIS:

Clean, Drain, Dry fishing equipment. AIS such as hydrilla, spiny waterflea, and didymo can be carried between water bodies on fishing equipment. Before moving to a new location and after you’ve finished fishing:

Clean plants and mud from fishing gear, boots, and waders and put it in the trash. Consider using rubber boots with studs rather than felt-soled waders, which can be difficult to clean.
Drain water from gear and bait buckets onto land. If keeping bait, drain the water and replace it with spring water or dechlorinated tap water.
Dry your equipment with a towel or let it air dry.
If possible, disinfect equipment using hot water (at 140°F for 30 seconds).

Use bait responsibly. Properly using and disposing of bait can prevent the spread of diseases and AIS. Purchase certified bait to make sure it’s disease-free. After fishing, dispose of unused bait in the trash rather than throwing it into a water body. Never release caught bait or fish into a different water body. Check DEC’s Baitfish Regulations page to keep up-to-date on which fish can be used as bait, where bait can be used, and more.

Report sightings of AIS. Be part of our efforts to control invasive species! If you find AIS while fishing, report it to iMapInvasives, New York’s invasive species database. Visit DEC’s Aquatic Invasives Species page to learn more about AIS to look out for.
