Data show Florida and New York had similar death numbers despite vastly different approaches.

At the start of the pandemic, "experts" shouted: "Stay home!" "Close schools!" "Wash your hands!" "Disinfect countertops!"

Clearly, disinfecting countertops and washing hands made no difference. What about closing schools and lockdowns?

The media trashed Gov. Ron DeSantis when he lifted Florida's lockdown. "Acting irresponsibly!" roared MSNBC's Dr. Vin Gupta. Reporters praised New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's lockdowns.

On CNN, Andrew's brother Chris gushed, "I am wowed by what you did!" By contrast, he said, Florida was "in such dire straits."

But actually, adjusted for population, Florida and New York had about the same number of deaths. Given that Florida has more old people, Florida did better than New York. Starting on Friday, January 13th, 2023, a portion of the RiverWalk in Croton Landing Park will be closed to allow crews to repair the sea wall that was damaged during the recent storm. The repairs will take approximately two weeks to complete. This schedule may be adjusted due to unforeseen circumstances, including weather. Please refer to the map below for the location of the trail closure. Thank you for your patience and cooperation during this important project.

GOUVEIA PARK DEBACLE CONTINUES--2023--Request for Interest (RFI) - Gouveia Park--POSTED ON: JANUARY 12, 2023 - 4:20PM

The Village of Croton-on-Hudson has published a Request for Qualifications and Interest (RFI) to seek design ideas to enhance the Village-owned Gouveia Park.

The 15.6 acre site at 1300 Albany Post Road is currently open to residents of the Village and Croton-Harmon School District as a public park. The property was willed to the Village of Croton-on-Hudson in 2015, upon the death of Laurel Gouveia, a longtime Village resident.

The Village of Croton-on-Hudson is looking for examples of sites with park amenities, such as a restaurant. Creativity within the response and past work will be given high consideration. The property is designated municipal parkland, and must be utilized for parkland-related purposes and attractions.

This first phase as an RFI is primarily to receive qualifications and expressions of interest. Click here to view the RFI.

MASADA--- O'TOOLE--AND CROTON'S PETER STRAUSS

We recently watched the epic 1981 miniseries---MASADA---AGAIN----and wow....so worth your time.  Starring the fabulous Peter O'Toole---and Croton's own Peter Strauss---Masada is a fictionalized account of the historical siege of the Masada citadel in Israel by legions of the Roman Empire in AD 73. The TV series' script is based on the 1971 novel The Antagonists by Ernest Gann, The siege ended when the Roman armies entered the fortress, only to discover the mass suicide by the Jewish defenders when defeat became imminent.
