TORONTO CAFE, THE ANARCHIST, CLOSING AFTER A YEAR IN BUSINESS

An anti-capitalist coffee shop in Canada is closing after a year in business, its owner announced, citing "the lack of generational wealth/seed capital from ethically bankrupt sources" as the reason for being unable to continue to operate the business. The Toronto cafe, The Anarchist, opened in March 2022 and previously described itself as an "anti-capitalist, anti-colonial cafe, shop and radical community space on stolen land," BlogTO reported. It will close its doors on May 30.

"It's been an amazing experience, connecting with so many great community members, sparking desperately needed debate, raising the blood pressure of Conservatives (that includes you, "anarcho-capitalists" and "Libertarians"), fulfilling the dream of most service workers by not having to tolerate the presence of professional class-traitors (pigs and military), and experimenting with living and working in ways that don't enthusiastically embrace the pure misanthropy of Capitalism," shop owner Gabriel Sims-Fewer wrote on the cafe website to announce the closing

Board of Legislators Elect Gashi as its New Chairman

In a 15-0 vote, the board approved Gashi to succeed Legislator Catherine Borgia (D-Ossining) who was forced to resign from her role as chair after the other members of the 15-legislator Democratic caucus thought she mishandled a situation where a staffer was under investigation for trying to meet an underage girl.

Gashi, who represents the 4th Legislative District that includes New Castle and parts of Somers, Yorktown and Ossining, ascends to the top spot on the board during his second term. He will remain in that role until the legislative session expires at the end of the year.

“I am humbled by the trust placed by my colleagues as this new chapter of leadership begins,” Gashi said during roughly five minutes of remarks. “I look forward to working with each and every one of you on priorities of your district, and (would) regard my tenure a success if I’m able to help you all succeed with the priorities that you have.”

In his brief address, Gashi noted that he is the first Albanian-American and the first lawmaker of Muslim faith to hold the position of chairman in the county’s history. MORE AT Board of Legislators Elect Gashi as its New Chairman | The Examiner News

Orange County judge halts new asylum seekers but lets 186 remain in two Newburgh hotels

Some 186 asylum seekers can remain at two town of Newburgh hotels, but no others may be brought to Orange County from New York City under a temporary court order issued on Tuesday.

The county and town of Newburgh had filed three lawsuits against the city and The Crossroads Hotel on Friday after the city delivered asylum seekers one day earlier, the opening of a new push to relocate part of its swelling migrant population. Each case asked the court to halt the transfer of asylum seekers while the litigation plays out.

State Supreme Court Justice Sandra Sciortino, who's handling both county suits and the town case, heard arguments from attorneys on Tuesday morning and agreed to suspend the placement of asylum seekers as of 11 a.m. Any migrants who were placed in Orange County hotels before then could stay..............MORE AT Migrant relocation: Newburgh asylum seekers allowed to stay in hotels (lohud.com)

VIA CROTON'S TOM FARANDA----WSJ: THE BIDEN FAMILY BUSINESS

VIA CROTON'S TOM FARANDA----WSJ: THE BIDEN FAMILY BUSINESS

WSJ: "The Biden Family Business"

So the Wall Street Journal is taking the Biden sleaze seriously. Eventually the rest of the media will have to. I'm not posting the entire WSJ editorial, just some excerpts.

... one conclusion is that it’s good to be related to Joseph Robinette Biden. Hunter Biden and his relatives traded profitably off the Biden name with transactions that suggest the main family business is influence peddling.

... This yielded millions of dollars for Biden family members via a web of shell companies that would be hard to untangle without subpoena power. Why so much complexity?

The 36-page report shows Biden family members and business associates created nearly 20 separate entities shortly before and during Joe Biden’s Vice Presidency. The entities with obscure names—Hudson West III, Hudson West V, Owascu, JBB SR INC—transferred cash from foreign entities. Bank records show that more than $10 million was delivered to Biden family members, associates and companies from these foreign entities, and in curious ways.

In some cases “Biden associates would receive significant deposits from foreign sources,” then “transfer smaller, incremental payments to Biden bank accounts,” the report says. These “complicated and seemingly unnecessary” transactions appeared to be an “effort to conceal the source and total amount received from the foreign companies.”

This is classic money laundering.....MORE AT Tom Faranda's Folly: WSJ: "The Biden Family Business" (typepad.com)

DURHAM REPORT---DOJ AND FBI FAILED TO UPHOLD THEIR IMPORTANT MISSION OF STRICT FIDELITY TO THE LAW

Durham report: DOJ and FBI 'failed to uphold their important mission of strict fidelity to the law' by Tiana Lowe Doescher, Commentary Writer |
May 16, 2023 01:19 AM

More than six years after Donald Trump proclaimed that the FBI's Crossfire Hurricane investigation was a "witch hunt" by the deep state, special counsel John Durham has all but vindicated the former president.

"Based on the review of Crossfire Hurricane and related intelligence activities, we conclude that the Department and the FBI failed to uphold their important mission of strict fidelity to the law in connection with certain events and activities described in this report," read the long-awaited Durham report. "As noted, former FBI attorney Kevin Clinesmith committed a criminal offense by fabricating language in an email that was material to the FBI obtaining a FISA surveillance order. In other instances, FBI personnel working on that same FISA application displayed, at best, a cavalier attitude towards accuracy and completeness. FBI personnel also repeatedly disregarded important requirements when they continued to seek renewals of that FISA surveillance while acknowledging — both then and in hindsight — that they did not genuinely believe there was probable cause to believe that the target was knowingly engaged in clandestine intelligence activities on behalf of a foreign power, or knowingly helping another person in such activities."  MORE AT Durham report: DOJ and FBI 'failed to uphold their important mission of strict fidelity to the law' | Washington Examiner
