THE WALL AT THE KATZ/REGAN/MAPLE COMMONS HOUSING PROJECT, POCKET PARK

Welcome to The New Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship---in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

The blog has received many questions and comments about the wall at the "pocket park". It appears there were building issues, and it has been disassembled--for lack of another way to put it. There also has been quite a bit of commentary about this on assorted private and public facebook pages and/or local forums.  It appears the wall will be/is being rebuilt.  Further questions and comments should be referred to village officials and/or staff. Questions about whether this had anything to do with the recent additional tree removal, are best directed there as well.

Crotonville Pump Station Repairs Completed; River Advisory Remains in Effect
POSTED ON: JUNE 10, 2024 - 11:57AM

Westchester County has provided an update on the repairs to the force main at the Crotonville Pump Station. At this time, repairs have been completed and the station is operating normally. Residents connected to the Village's sanitary sewer system may resume normal activities.

The advisory against swimming and other recreational activities in the Hudson River and the tidal portion of the Croton River continues. Kayakers, boaters and others should continue to avoid both rivers at this time. Westchester County is currently conducting testing of the river to determine when it will be safe to lift the advisory. Once the advisory is lifted, another update will be published. Crotonville Pump Station Repairs Completed; River Advisory Remains in Effect | Croton-on-Hudson NY (crotononhudson-ny.gov)

IN THE NEWS; MONDAIRE JONES

Senior staffer on 2022 Maloney campaign confirms existence of Mondaire Jones phone call-----The former staffer said they heard Sean Patrick Maloney call Jones and offer to drop out of the NY-17 primary......

As Maloney was relentlessly attacked for supposedly pushing Jones out of the 17th District, Jones never mentioned that Maloney had actually offered to withdraw from the race. It seemed to be more politically advantageous for him to let people believe that the Democratic establishment had forced him to abandon his constituents rather than to come out and say that he was not sure he could have defeated a Republican challenger.

'LOST ANNSVILLE' AT THE CROTON LIBRARY 6/13

Welcome to The New Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship---in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

Lost Annsville
The tiny hamlet of Annsville was home to some of Peekskill and Cortlandt's first industries. Its lampblack factory was the antecedent to a crayon dynasty and the blast furnace on the shore of Annsville Creek had its own narrow gauge railroad running to the Croft mines of Putnam. The large wire mill at the base of Lampblack Hill was the area’s largest employer, yet not a trace remains of these vibrant industries and others that were central to the existence of this little hamlet. Discover the history of Annsville with Kirk Moldoff, a medical illustrator and animator with a passion for industrial archaeology, local history and cast iron stoves.

NEW YORK — An invasive species has started an assault on New York estuaries and we are the last line of defense — luckily, the alien invaders are easy to spot.  The mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis), an invasive shellfish species native to East Asia, has been spotted in the Long Island Sound, the Hudson River and the Nissequogue River, according to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC). It has also been introduced to other parts of the east coast, the west coast, and Europe. MORE AT Invasive, 'Furry'-Clawed Mitten Crabs Seen In LI Sound, Hudson River | New Rochelle, NY Patch
