Breaking: Parents Defending Education sues Croton-Harmon schools in federal court for alleged constitutional violations related to harassment, bullying, DEI policies

The suit, which includes three anonymous Croton-Harmon school district parents, alleges free speech violations and compulsion of students to adopt sex and gender ideas contrary to their beliefs.

JUN 12 --MICHAEL BALTER

Today, June 12, the nationwide conservative group Parents Defending Education sued the Croton-Harmon school district in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, White Plains Division, for violations of students’ rights under the First and Fourteenth Amendments to the U.S. Constitution.

The 63 page Complaint names the district, the Board of Education, Superintendent Stephen Walker, Assistant Superintendent John Griffiths, and numerous other named district officials including the seven members of the Board. Also participating in the lawsuit are three anonymous Croton-Harmon parents, designated A through C, who believe that their children are being compelled by the district to adopt views contrary to their beliefs and principles.

In a press release also issued today, the group states:

Croton-Harmon’s speech codes bar “unwelcome,” “offensive,” and “hate[ful]” speech based on certain protected classes, but not on all—which permits the district to police speech based on viewpoint. Therefore, some students are protected for views that align with the district’s views, and other students may face punishment because their deeply held beliefs are contrary to the district’s discipline agents. THE NY DAILY NEWS -- PRO-PALESTINIAN PROTESTERS VANDALIZE HOMES OF BROOKLYN MUSEUM DIRECTOR, BOARD MEMBERS

Pro-Palestinian protesters vandalized the homes of Brooklyn Museum director Anne Pasternak and several Jewish board members early Wednesday in what local elected officials are calling an act of “vile anti-Semitism.”

Vandals defaced the front of the homes with red paint and also painted inverted red triangles on the doors, which Jewish advocate Aviva Klompas claims are a “symbol used by terrorists to mark targets they want to take out.”

“This is not peaceful protest or free speech. This is a crime, and it’s overt, unacceptable antisemitism,” Mayor Adams said on X. MORE AT Pro-Palestinian protesters vandalize homes of Brooklyn Museum director, board members (nydailynews.com)

GYPSY MOTH UPDATE--NO, THE BLOG DOES NOT REFER TO THEM WITH THE POLITICALLY CORRECT NAME--REQUESTS FOR RE-POSTS

Welcome to The New Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

As many of you know, we have had many emails and questions here at the blog concerning this issue going back about a month or two ago.  This was covered in the last edition of our gardening series. There has also been considerable chatter on some local pages and private forums.

For those who only want the gypsy moth info, see the following:

--Several locations in the village, including local parks, have experienced gypsy moth issues.

--Here's some NY news---what to do etc.: 2024 Gypsy Moth Outbreak Could Kill Thousands of Hudson Valley Trees

Gypsy moths, also known as spongy moths, have broken out in the Hudson Valley and Catskills region nearly every summer in the recent past.

If you’ve gone hiking or even looked around your yard in the last month or so, they’re almost impossible to miss. The most prominent sign of them are fine silken threads in the air or on tree and plant surfaces. Beyond that, you may see dark, brown fuzzy caterpillars hanging on or off of trees, feeding on leaves. In wooded areas, you may be serenaded by a pitter-patter sound, similar to rainfall, except it’s the sound of caterpillar feces hitting the ground.  READ MORE AT 2024 Gypsy Moth Outbreak Could Kill Thousands of Hudson Valley Trees - Expert Tree Service (expertsintrees.com)

We do not condone the use of duct tape reversed sticky side up around trees as this can be harmful to birds and insects.
