BLM'S LEADERS USED CHARITABLE FUNDS TO ENRICH THEMSELVES & THEIR FAMILIES, NEW DOCUMENTS SHOW

Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation (BLMGNF) has paid out millions in contracts to insiders, newly released tax documents show.

The nation’s largest BLM organization approved lucrative contracts to firms owned by members of the organization’s leadership and their family members between July 2022 and June 2023, tax filings show. The shuffling of charitable funds to private companies owned by interested parties raises considerable ethical concerns given the lack of oversight and the possible conflicts of interest, experts told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

“Whether a person loves this charity’s mission or hates it, they should be angry that significant amounts of charitable dollars are being channeled to interested parties without adequate oversight in place,” Charity Watch Executive Director Laurie Styron told the DCNF. “Charities are expected to avoid both real and perceived conflicts of interest to maintain public trust. This charity is doing the opposite. The optics here are really, really bad.”  MORE AT BLM’s Leaders Used Charitable Funds To Enrich Themselves And Their Families, New Documents Show | The Daily Caller

The couple have owned their bird boutique on South Riverside Avenue for 14 years. The business is thriving, part of a $3 billion industry that grew during the pandemic.

MICHAEL BALTER 6/14/2024

Rob and Maria Armanini came to live in Croton 35 years ago, shortly after they got married. They both come from Queens, where they had met through mutual friends. “Growing up in Queens in the 1970s and 1980s was no picnic,” Rob says, looking back on it. So they came up to Westchester County and just started driving around. Croton looked pretty good to them, so they decided to settle in the village.

But their working life was not all that inspiring. Maria worked in finance, and Rob handled travel operations for a chemical company, which involved a lot of commuting. When Rob got laid off, they decided it was time to do something radically different. They weren’t birders, but like many Crotonites, they had birds at home. At first they didn’t even realize that there was such a thing as a birdfeed store. They began doing research.

They thought about going with a birdfeed franchise, but decided that route was too expensive. So they rented a small building on South Riverside Avenue owned by local contractor Mark Franzoso, and opened up their own business. Fourteen years later, they are still going strong. In fact, the bird business is booming. READ MORE AT Chronicle profile: Rob and Maria Armanini say, “Feed the Birds!” And we do, in style. (substack.com)

THE CROTON CHRONICLE---FEDERAL JUDGE CATHY SIEBEL ASSIGNED TO PARENTS' CASE AGAINST CROTON-HARMON SCHOOL DISTRICT

Welcome to The New Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton -- our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools -- in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

THE CROTON CHRONICLE, MICHAEL BALTER

Federal Judge Cathy Seibel, a George W. Bush appointee, assigned to parents’ case against Croton-Harmon school district.

While generally conservative, Seibel could be a wild card as the case proceeds.

A conservative education advocacy group and three Croton-Harmon parents suing our local school district have drawn George W. Bush appointee Cathy Seibel as the judge in their case. The lawsuit, which was filed on June 12, asks the court to strike down the district’s anti-harassment, anti-racist, anti-bullying, and pro-DEI policies as violations of the U.S. Constitution’s guarantees of free speech and equal protection.
