PURPLE FINCHES ON GRAND

Welcome to The New Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton -- our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools -- in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

So...these are called Purple Finches---but they look pretty red to us---and many folks including your editor, have always called them Raspberry Finches....

No matter---they love nyjer seed---and co-exist peacefully with the Goldfinches, who dominate the finch feeder most days....Click on the photo (and to see the 2024 goldfinches in their summer colors, go to THE NEW EVERYTHING CROTON: 2024 GOLDIES ON GRAND!!!)

And for the best nyjer seed and finch feeders, it's FEED THE BIRDS--326 S. RIVERSIDE AVENUE--(914) 862-4700

  1. The blog has received some strident commentary that feeding the finches attracts bears and to please stop......please note: Bears love pungent black oil sunflower seeds and suet, so instead fill your feeders with seeds that they dislike, such as strong-flavored Nyjer and thistle. As always, the blog recommends that our trolls read more, react less...then repeat.
