127 YEARS AGO TODAY--FROM THE CROTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY FB PAGE--THE CROTON DAM

This photograph, dated February 7, 1896, shows the state of the New Croton Dam site roughly three and a half years after construction began. It took that long to divert the flow of the Croton River (shown in the foreground) and dig the gigantic hole for the foundation. The first masonry in the foundation wasn't laid until May 26, 1896.
