Rockland County, one of several Hudson Valley counties that sought to bar the transport of asylum seekers, is now suggesting that offering local government assistance to asylum seekers may be unconstitutional. In a new emergency order, County Executive Ed Day doubled down on an argument that Rockland had previously made against supporting migrants, suggesting that aid targeted to homeless migrants and asylum seekers might illegally discriminate against everyone else.
