SERVICE INFO FOR FORMER RESIDENT & TRUSTEE WILLIAM J. POHLMANN

William J Pohlmann, age 85, of Monroe Township, New Jersey passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2023. William was born in Davenport, IA. on July 19, 1938. His parents were William and Irene (Gross) Pohlmann.

He was a graduate of the University of Iowa, receiving a BBA degree in 1960. Three weeks after graduation he began his business career with the accounting department of the New York Central Railroad Company in NYC. In Feb. 1961 he was called to active duty as an Army Infantry Officer. In Aug of 1961 he was released from active duty and returned to the NYC RR. While working as assistant treasurer the proverbial "office romance" began with Yvonne Merritt. They were married in May 1965. From 1969 until 1994 He worked at Chase Manhattan Bank in NYC. He retired as a Vice President.

Bill and Yvonne lived in the Croton-on-Hudson-Cortland NY area until 2007 when they moved to NJ. While living in Croton, Bill was elected to two consecutive terms as Village Trustee. He was also named Deputy Mayor, Fire Commissioner and a liaison to a variety of committees. He was also a member of the Croton Rod & Gun Club. They were active in volunteer work for Holy Name of Mary Church. Bill was Chairman of the church Finance Committee and President of the Parish Council.

Bill and Yvonne were blessed with two children. Michelle Delaney (husband Jeffrey Delaney) who resides in NJ and John Pohlmann living in TN. Bill and Yvonne have three grandchildren, Sean (married to Patience), Katherine and Heather Delaney. A great grandson is expected in Jan.

Yvonne predeceased Bill in 2013.

A visitation for William will be held Tuesday, November 28, 2023, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Edward F Carter Funeral Home, 41 Grand Street, Croton-on-Hudson, NY 10520. A mass of Christian burial will occur Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at 12:00 PM at Good Shepherd Chapel, 59 Benedict Blvd, Croton-on-Hudson, NY 10520. A cremation will be private will occur.

  1. I knew Bill when he was a Trustee and stayed friendly with Bill and Yvonne for many years. He was a very kind man and always tried to do his best for the Village.
