LOHUD----After hundreds of battery-related fires caused multiple deaths in New York City last year, state legislators are pushing for additional protections against rechargeable lithium-ion batteries.

Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie announced the Assembly's passage Wednesday of five bills aimed at protecting New Yorkers as fire departments across the state have reported a rise in fires caused by the batteries.
